Will unemployment affect chances of receiving a study permit?

One year is not too long. Just explain in your sop what you've been doing (like some professional courses, any academic related activities). Not something to be scary, but don't completely neglect it though.

Okay, thanks. Although ave not been actively engaged in anything I can show proof for, I used that time for my application process. Writing my SOP and anything related to my school application. That’s why I’m finding it difficult to explain that aspect.
