Hi everyone, I’m looking for honest feedback before applying for my Canada study visa.

I completed a 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences about a year ago and I’m currently working as a science teacher. I’ve always been interested in the environmental field.

I applied to Master’s programs, but was rejected mainly because my degree is three years. So I applied to an Ontario public college for an environmental-related postgraduate certificate program and have received an offer letter.

I have sufficient financial support to cover my studies. My main concern is whether there are any red flags in my profile and whether choosing a postgraduate certificate program could negatively affect my study visa approval, especially for the May intake.

I don’t want to risk a refusal, so I’d appreciate realistic opinions on my chances.

Thank you.

Need some more context. Why do you need to study in Canada? How will it build on your career and education? Is the program only available at this school and in only Canada? Do you have PAL? What school?

If program is only a year then what is the point of coming to Canada? Where are you applying from?

I’m from India and have received my PAL. I hold a 3 yr Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and was not eligible for most master’s programs, so I applied to a public college with a strong reputation in environmental studies and received an offer for a 4-semester (1.5-year) postgraduate certificate program.

My main concern is visa approval. Given the current situation in Canada, could choosing a postgraduate certificate be seen negatively and increase the risk of refusal, despite the program being relevant to my academic background?

You have to explain why you must study in Canada, and how the program is not available anywhere else. Taking a college program may not really advance your career when you return home. Explain the different job opportunities and high salary you will have by taking the program. You explain that you cannot get the job with your current degree. As for education, what is the actual program? Lab program?

There is a high risk because many study permits are being refused. You come with expectation to study and return home.
