Hi guys... :)

I'm a Canadian citizen who sponsored my wife to Canada. She already got her PR visa and landed in Canada last month, and officially became a permanent resident.

She'd like to order a GCMS note just for fun (we're curious what the officer thought about her PR application.)

She tried to order the note on her own behalf from this page:

https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/

In the online ATIP request form, she:

- indicated that she's a permanent resident
- provided our Canadian mailing address
- provided her UCI
- indicated the fie type as "Immigration file: permanent residence"

But we're a little confused and have some questions:

1. She got as far as the fourth page of the request form ("Review and Validate"), but nowhere was she ever asked to provide her file number. How come? How would they be able to release the correct GCMS note then? Will they automatically know her file number, based on the fact that she provided her UCI and indicated that she'd like a note of permanent residence file?

2. How come no supporting document was asked for? How would she prove that she's in Canada then?

3. Even though she's requesting for the note on her own behalf, we'll be paying with MY credit card. Is that fine?

They can track it via her UCI number.

Sorry, wasn't paying close enough attention.

I was not asked for any proof either, and was granted my notes.

If you ask for them under the privacy act, there is no charge. Even if you do pay the $5 fee it won't matter the name on the card.

Wow amazing

So you're saying that one can request for a GCMS note for absolutely free?

(Makes me wonder why others pay between $5 to $40+ then... ;D )

Because you can only get them for free if you're asking on behalf of yourself, and you are in Canada. For example, I am the Sponsor and could get my notes for free but they would only should the parts where I was approved as a Sponsor, nothing about the Applicant, my American husband. I would have to pay $5 to get them for him on his behalf, as he does not live in Canada and have a Canadian address/proof.

Okay thanks for the info.

So just to clarify, since my wife *is* a permanent resident and *is* in Canada, with a Canadian address (well it's my parents' address though, at least for now), therefore if she requests for the note on her own behalf, then under the privacy act she can get GCMS for free?

That is correct.
