So why are people over 55 exempt from taking the citizenship test? I was actually looking forward to it!

They think life is over at 55! Not only is the test not required, but there’s also no language requirement! Interesting

Nothing stops you from reading the source material and doing some mock tests. It's pretty much the same thing really.

I’m not…. One less thing I have to schedule. I’ll do some self study out of my own curiosity and desire to participate in our community.

I could have applied before my 55 birthday, but didn't, as I didn't need to to do either the citizenship or language tests. I applied at the start of January this year. Had my AOR, fingerprints and background check completed so far. Does the application go quicker, as we don't need both tests? They are still saying "In Process" in my tracker.

The language proof and citizenship test, unless there's something problematic like forging a diploma (extremely rare!) or failing the test many times (much more common but still very rare), don't affect the timeline much and get validated relatively quickly. Your application will go pretty much as fast as every other application waiting for LPP.
