When do they do background and security checks

Please can someone explain when CIC or CHC do the background and security checks?? Is it after the medicals and the RPRF fee?? or before that. Once they request for medical and the RPRF fee how long normally takes to request passports?

Hi,

This is what I know, the Background checks are done before CIC send you the medical request, which is your employment verification, your education points you claim etc, they are called background check.

The Security checks are performed once your medical is passed and you pay RPRF fee, the security checks contain any criminal activities, tie to any extremist group, Danger to Canada, terrorism etc, this is done by the Canadian intelligence Agency equivalent to FBI in USA. After the medical is passed and fee is paid and given all documents are sent in - the whole thing may take 2 to 3 months due to backlogs.
