What to do when PGWP expires in November 2025?

1. I want to try PR and will try and do so by January

1. You'll need to research Canada's immigration programs to understand how each works and what it takes to qualify, apply, and be selected. Have you done that yet? If so, which programs are you considering and have you done ECA / IELTS / etc already?
2. You'll need to switch to a closed work permit / employer specific work permit. To do this you'll need a job offer from an employer in Canada. If your job offer and occupation falls under CUSMA, then you can apply for the work permit without an LMIA. Otherwise your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA.

Whether you can secure PR will be dependent on your age, IELTS score, number of degrees, work experience in and out of Canada, whether you have a job offer, the province where you live and your NOC. Would suggest calculating your CRS score and compare to recent scores and draws.

So last year I was part of the Mastercard Foundations program and was an associate and The Foundation did not sign a contract with me directly but with a foreign company where did I remote internship from within Canada. I was paid in CAD by the company as they were paid from the Foundation’s Canada account and delivered to me

I was wondering does this qualify as a year of work experience for PR and who should I call to clarify?

Really depends on your actual work experience. Were you working at the foundation in the US and your only involved with the 3rd party is payment? Does this 3rd party have offices in Canada and do you ever go to the office? Do you ever attend meetings or do work at the Mastercard foundation offices in the US?

There's no one at IRCC who you can call to clarify. They don't offer this kind of advice. If you want advice, you would need to hire a lawyer.

If you were paid a regular salary, then this should count as Canadian work experience. I don't see why you couldn't.

If you plan to apply through EE / CEC, make sure you are aware of the current cut offs for the draws. You will want to have a score that is sufficiently high to be selected. Make sure you aren't counting points for having a job offer.

If you want to apply for a closed work permit, you will need to review the CUSMA occupation list to determine if your occupation is listed there. Only select occupations qualify. If your occupation is not listed, then your employer would need to obtain an approved LMIA.

Yes the program was the Mastercard Foundation enrichment program from Canada
I was an consultant/associate for the company
Mastercard signed an agreement with the company not me directly. I was called a MasterCard Associate and it was a placement through the foundation

Who is the employer listed on your paycheck? If you had to get a letter about proof of employment who would provide it? Are they located in Canada and do they have a physical office?

It doesn't matter what "program" your work is under.

So far, it sounds like you were hired by a US contracting company that's fulfilling a project for Mastercard Canada.
So you were hired NOT by the Canadian company. Did you get T4?
