So far, it sounds like you were hired by a US contracting company that's fulfilling a project for Mastercard Canada.
So you were hired NOT by the Canadian company. Did you get T4?

2. per my contract was independent contractor

Did you earn more than 30k cad per year? It is not directly related to pr. But if you earn more than 30k per year self employment income, you need a HST number and start collecting HST
