Okay so I just got my AOR and still have a long ways to go. At this point can they still send our application back or will SA be the next step? What happens now? Thank you!

I was wondering the same thing.
I hope they don't send it back and just give our approval.

Yep! Do you know how long about until we receive SA? Can anyone help us out with our question please?

It is unlikely but still possible to get package returned after AOR. Just hang in there, the waiting game have just started, better be patient.
SA takes around 60 days

60 days from the time you receive AOR?

Yes, but the AOR date should match your delivery confirmation date anyway. Even though an AOR would be received today, it would say "we received your application on [day that you know it was delivered]". This is the date when your clock really starts, not the day that you receive AOR.

AOR is just an acknowledgement they have received your application; it is not the receipt itself. CIC received my sponsorship application in early December and I didn't get my AOR until February. I think it sits on a pile somewhere before they even acknowledge it.

After AOR, they could still send your application back, if it's missing information. But if you've followed all the instructions and included everything they asked you to include, you should be fine.

Actually, AOR means that someone at CIC has opened the application package and has deemed it to be complete (all required forms and signatures).

It should be like that, but not always. I agree with Mightytonewheel, getting an AOR doesn't mean that the application won't be returned. From my own experience, the whole application was sent back a week after AOR.

[From CIC document ip08):

Initial receipt and coding

An initial process occurs on receipt of every application, including those involving Quebec
applicants. This process includes information gathering, record creation and administrative steps
to ensure that initial evaluation can begin. This process includes, among others, the following
steps:
• verification for completeness;
• return to sponsor, if application is not complete, or acceptance by date stamp receipt;
• creation of both a paper and electronic file;
• acknowledgement; (this is AOR)
• request for any support documents or information that may be missing;
• verification of and possible printing of the FOSS and/or CAIPS record; and
• electronic transfer of biodata information to CPIC.

Having said that, I agree that it's a flawed system.

Yes and yes.

Yes, it is AOR.

Yes, your application can still be returned, although the chances of that would appear to be quite small now.

Thank you Ponga for the clear anwer. So from the day I recieved AOR would I count on 60 days until I recieve SA?
