Visa Office......
Etobicoke
Hi,

My parents' visitor visa just got refused. Earlier in the invitation letter, I wrote purpose of visit as meeting family & tourism, also I wrote that I may get married but now while the marriage is fixed and its date is decided, I am thinking to make the purpose of visit as my marriage in the new application, alongwith tourism.
What could be supported documents for this?

Thanks in advance
Robin

*I may get married when my parents visit* is quite different from *I'm definitely getting married and I want my parents to be present at my wedding* :)

I suggest you assess your parents' applications as a complete package.... and don't focus on only the given refusal reason of Purpose of visit (?).

Invitations, marriage license, bookings for the venue/catering/florists, etc + copy of your fiancée's passport and immigration status + a letter from your fiancée and/or her family inviting your parents for the wedding (personal tone), etc

Hi Bryanna,

Thanks a lot for your response.
As the marriage is in September, the marriage licence won't be valid till that time as i read its only good for 90 days. Isn'it?
Although I'm thinking to get a sample wedding card printed for visa, but how can I show invitations?

Regards
Robin

That's right. It is valid for 90 days.

Having said that, when do your parents intend to visit? If, for example, they mention they want to visit in June and stay until the wedding = A visit of 3-4 months which indirectly implies they have weak ties/no solid reasons to return to their home country.

If you've finalized the wedding date/venue, etc then do include the actual wedding card, not a sample card because that's not genuine as such. I would also include other evidence such as bookings, etc

As for invitations: Maybe 3-4 emails sent by you and your fiancée to relatives/friends

I'm planning to get married in September, so much of which will be planned a couple before marriage.
One problem is that my fiance's study visa is valid till 31 August, after which she would be applying for work permit. Should I explain this in the letter of explanation? Or should I show that I'm getting married in August?

In that case, I recommend you don't apply for your parents so far ahead. Do apply maybe end-July or early-August. It would also give adequate time for your parents to establish more stronger ties/prepare more solid applications.

IMO, maybe you should schedule your wedding to after she gets her PGWP. This way it won't be incorrectly perceived as getting married to remain in Canada. Of course, if you have solid proofs of your relationship then this concern won't arise

Hi Bryanna,

Should I include the booking of restaurant only or should also get booking done in the religious place, where wedding would be solemnized, as its not decided yet.

Regards
Robin

I think you're applying way in advance which won't work for a number of reasons. Not sure why the hurry. It's your call.

Also, the wedding documents do not seem genuine/convincing

@Bryanna Actually, I need to plan my wedding soon, and all the things including the place has to be decided depending on whether my parents get the visa or not!

You're putting the wedding carriage before the horse. Your parents already have one TRV refusal.

Their chances of approval would depend on proving you are getting married. That's their new purpose of visit, right?

A sample wedding card, a tentative restaurant booking (without booking the religious place), no marriage license yet, no invites sent out to other folks, your parents applying way in advance (I've explained this in my previous post), etc etc..... would not convince a visa officer that you are getting married. It's your call
