Want to surrender PR and re-apply for it

Intro: So I’m currently living in the US, working for a big tech firm here. I’m generally ok with my life but it turns out that because of current US sponsorship laws, I cannot sponsor my parents for living with me in the US, and I think this won’t be happening for me for at least another 7-8 years :/ .. Because Canada has friendlier and quicker sponsorship programs for parents, I’m thinking of moving to Canada, just so my parents can live with me.

Main point: I actually already have Canadian PR, which I got in August 2016, but it’s only for me. I got married last year and my wife doesn’t have Canadian PR (although she does have TRV). To avoid complications with sponsoring her, I’m thinking of surrendering my PR and then re-applying for it as a couple.

1. How do I surrender my Canadian PR ? And once I do so, how long does it take to complete ?
2. Do I need to wait for the PR cancellation to complete before I can file for it again ?
3. Is there anything from my original PR application that I can re-use ? I assume I need to give IELTS again (my last one is from 2015) ?

You may want to do a bit more research about PGP sponsorship in Canada. If you qualify for PR again, expect a year to sort out renouncing and reapplying. You then need 3 years of income in Canada that meets LICO to even qualify to put your name into the lottery. You then have to hope that you are drawn from the lottery. It could be a very long time.

You may want to do a bit more research about PGP sponsorship in Canada. If you qualify for PR again, expect a year to sort out renouncing and reapplying. You then need 3 years of income in Canada that meets LICO to even qualify to put your name into the lottery. You then have to hope that you are drawn from the lottery. It could be a very long time.

Sure - it would be faster if your parents can qualify and apply for PR on their own through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry.

FYI - assuming you are a US citizen, parent sponsorship is much faster in the US.

Sure - it would be faster if your parents can qualify and apply for PR on their own through an economic immigration stream like Express Entry.

That will require IELTS and everything else, right ?? ... My dad is retired and is like 65+ .. He fully knows English but doesn't have the will give a test at this stage of his life

PGP program is never guaranteed and I expect it to go through some changes next year no matter what. Moving to Canada because you think you can sponsor your parents faster is not a great reason to move. Move knowing there may be a possibility to try and sponsor your parents starting 4-5 years from now. There are tons of people wanting to sponsor their parents and Canada’s medical system is at capacity so not everyone can get what they want.

Just want to clarify that this is a visitor visa so parents have to return to their home country at a certain point. You will likely not qualify for a year for this.

Most of the countries you may be considering have aging populations so they will limit how many parents and grandparents can immigrate unless there is a way for the families to cover all the healthcare costs plus cost of living like Australia.
