My PR card will expire in 2026 and I'm wondering what is the best way to approach renewal. I will have spent less than an year in Canada before my PR expires, but I have been living in the USA with my Canadian spouse during the remainder of the time. We moved back to the USA due to work reasons. My understanding is that time living abroad with a Canadian spouse satisfies the Canadian residency requirement--is this true? And if so, how to I go about getting my PR card required. We do have relatives living in Canada who my PR card could be mailed to...

Thanks!

Yes, time spent living with your Canadian citizenship spouse abroad can generally be counted towards RO. "Generally" because IRCC will sometimes apply the who followed whom rule (i.e. if your spouse moved outside of Canada primarily due to your employment, IRCC may or may not allow you to count).

You have to be physically in Canada to submit the application to renew your PR card. So you would need to apply to renew during a trip to Canada.

What if we both moved back to take new jobs? I did come slightly earlier than her due to starting dates of my job vs. hers.

IMO you should be fine.
