I am talking about general trends. There are obviously exceptions, and moreover CIC has never disclosed how they process applications. Read the first post on page 1, what you mention was the normal trend, but it seems that it is no longer the case, at least for the majority of the applicants.

Any news from anyone?

Sadly none. The long wait goes on. At least you are nearing the end of your 6 months.

I reached the 6 months mark on March 3. The same day my BGC went in progress from not started. So the wait continues.

Its a personal choice. Remember that the GCMS notes will take 30-45 days. Usually as per the existing trend right now, BGC is the last stage in the application process. Until a few weeks ago as soon as the applicant's BGC went in progress, within 1-2 weeks PPR came in. However, now it seems that the wait times have increased at this last step. This is for the Outland applicants.

For the inland applicants, the BGC goes in progress soon after the AoR and remains in progress until the application is closed.

So its your call. I applied for my first set of GCMS notes in January, since there was no movement on my file from October until I applied. I was happy to know that my eligibility had passed. The notes only help you see what has happened on your file and take some corrective action if there are any concerns.

Its all about personal preference. So if you think you want to apply for GCMS notes, go ahead. If you just want to wait, you can do that. And on the brighter side, what if you apply and receive a PPR before you get your notes :P

I am curious- exactly what all is checked in a background check? I understand verifications are made regarding information I have submitted- what else, though?

My guess only:

1) Telephone employers to verify authenticity of employment letter(s) submitted
2) Telephone bank managers to verify authenticity of letter submitted for 'Proof of Funds'
3) Checking ECA credentials with organization that issued ECA
4) Checking language results with organization that issued language results transcript
5) Checking details of residence with landlord(s)
6) Verifying LOE details (ie people applicant(s) planning to get married, applicant(s) marrying Canadian citizen/PR, applicant(s) denied visa to foreign country/countries, applicant(s) who may have changed name(s) after being married) etc.

With LOE there can be many things to check.

I'm not sure what else they may or may not check.
