VISITOR VISA STAY REVALIDATION

My parent came to Canada on Visitor Visas on 9 Aug 2019 so their 6 months stay is due to expire on 8 Aug. However, they want to return to India in the first week of May 2020.
I am taking them to Dominican Republic for one week in Jan 2020. Since we will return by air, my assumption is that their stay here will be revalidated for further 6 months from the date of our re-entry at the airport. Am I correct?

It may or maybe not, depends what the CBSA determines upon arrival
Why don’t you apply to extend their stay ?

As above there are no guarantees, they could get another 6 months, they could just be left with what remains their initial stay, they could get a few weeks given time already spent or worst case although possibly unlikely be refused entry. Assume they anyway have a multiple entry visa.

ultimately nobody here can do more than speculate, CBSA will of course decide.

Just to add using the extend stay as a visitor application would not be any use given that in effect is void once leaving the country.

How long they are allowed back into Canada will be up to the CBSA officer. Six months is not guaranteed.
