Firstly...if you have cohabited together for 365 days or more, you are eligible to apply for spousal sponsorship. This also means that your bf is NOT your bf; they are [now] your Common Law partner.
You can now apply for sponsorship but need to have solid evidence of meeting that 365 threshold. What kind(s) of evidence do you you showing that you have lived together
in a conjugal type relationship (not `roommates') for one full year or more?
Because you have applied to change your status from worker to visitor, you currently have `Maintained Status', while IRCC processes your visitor record request. This is legal status in Canada.
If you submit the sponsorship application package and receive your all important `AOR' email, you would then be eligible to apply for an OWP. You cannot work until you have been approved for and receive the OWP.
