Hi,
Myself and my wife applied for a visitor visa (from Pakistan) to Canada but got refused. The only reason that was checked was 'Purpose of Visit'. I am not really sure what went wrong there. We have visited many countries including Malaysia, SriLanka, Dubai, Europe, England, USA (multiple times) and wanted to visit canada as tourists. On the application I mentioned that we dont have any family (Siblings, Parents, kids etc) in Canada. We have an Uncle (mom's brother) in canada and on the IMM5257 form, i gave their address and name as a reference.
We applied for 3 weeks stay where 1 week was with uncle and 2 weeks of Hotel booking.
I did not provide Flight itinerary nor any letter from my Uncle. Could this be the reason?

I am planning on reapplying - I would appreciate any help that you can provide in this case.

regards,
Mubashir

IMO, one of the reasons you were refused was your uncle did not provide an invitation letter + other documents that would confirm you are indeed visiting him. That said, 'Purpose of Visit' is a generic refusal reason. This means the actual grounds for refusal could extend to beyond the purpose of visit.

1. What documents did you submit for yourself and for your wife?
2. Do you have any valid visas currently?
3. Do you have children? If yes, how old are they and what do they do?
4. Did you submit a detailed day-by-day plan of what you intend to do when you visit + expense estimates for every day?
5. What strong ties can you demonstrate to Pakistan: Employment/business + property/land ownership + good financial situation + dependent family members + compelling reasons to return home by a specific date?

Cheers

Can you tell me after how many days (from your review of eligibility) did you receive your refusal?

Hi Bryanna,
Thanks for the detailed response. Please see my answers below

1. Since I was the primary applicant so I provided my employment/business details, Travel History, Proof of means of Financial support, Marriage License, Family information and purpose of travel (includes the cities we want to visit and hotel bookings for those).
For my Wife, they did not ask for her employment and financial means but on her rejection letter they put 'Purpose of Visit' as well as 'Personal assets and financial situation'. She is a teacher for past 10 years so I will provide her employment documents along with her finance statements.
2. Yes - United States
3. No children
4. No - we only submitted the hotel bookings for 2 weeks
5. I own my business in Pakistan and works with a US company as an offshore resource as well.I am enjoying a very stable financial situation. I am the breadwinner of the house and lives with my parents who are old and dependent on me. The compelling reason for me to come back are my parents and my work.

Furthermore, since 2014, we have been travelling abroad just for tourism every year. I have travelled more due to work as well.

Looking for your kind advise?

regards,
Mubashir

Hi,
We did our biometrics on Mar 13th. Got refusal message on Mar 23rd

Thanks,
Mubashir
It’s a general trend of refusal within a week or two. But still it’s actually rare that they refuse US visa holders.

This could give you some pointers:

It will be easier to advise if you then post the list of documents which you intend to submit

Thanks Bryanna - In addition to the documents I had submitted earlier, i am planning to add the following
1. My wife's employment details and bank statements
2. Day by day travel itinerary for 3 weeks.
3. A letter from my Uncle inviting us to stay with them during the trip
4. Flight and Hotel bookings.
5. A letter explaining the purpose of our visit highlighting our previous trips to other countries as well.

Anything else you suggest?

I think you're missing out on a whole bunch of documents. Do go through the link I had posted earlier

Got it - thanks
I will now start compiling those missing documents. One more question - when reapplying, do we need to fill in a new application with current date or can we utilize the previous one which is almost a month old? If we fill out a new application, do we need to give a reference of the old one like UCI number?

It will be a completely new application from scratch. You can state the UCI number if you have it at hand.

But don't forget to mention your previous TRV refusal (and refusals to any other countries, if that's the case)

One more question - in my application, I put funds for the trip as 15000CAD. What number should I put for my wife's application as I am the primary applicant and supporting her for this trip.

You would ensure that there are no large, last-minute deposits in your account + you would not use your business finances to pay for your visit.

Does your wife have a joint/shared access to your bank account? Any joint financial investments which can easily be liquidated, if required?
