Hello Good People,

I need some insights and feedback on my brother-in-law's TRV application refusal. We applied on 20th Sept 2025 and the application was refused yesterday. The intent of application was truly sightseeing and family visit. Me and my wife are PRs in Canada. My brother in law is 29 years old, single and holds a senior role in a well reputed MNC. Officer ODN says the following:

I have reviewed the application. The applicant does not have significant family ties outsideCanada. The purpose of the applicant's visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary staygiven the details provided in the application. Weighing the factors in this application, I am notsatisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay. For the reasons above, I have refused this application.

We submitted all employement related documents, property ownership records along with CA valuation, shouwed liquid funds in Bank account along with significant investments. The SOP was clear enough including detailed itinerary. We also included leave approval letter for 11 days, return ticket. My in-laws (brother in law's parents) are alive and dependent on him, we mentioned that in the SOP. Is there anything that we can do differently in terms of showing ties in home country? He genuinely wants to visit and staying (never leaving) in Canada is actually never the intention and not worth it for him. Some forums suggests that being single is an issue. Can a single traveller with legit travel reason never get approved for a visa?

To IRCC getting approved as a single person with no travel history and no family ties is very difficult. Family ties are not his parents and they are not his dependants. If he reapplies then outline parents' care for when he leaves (who takes care of them) and include doctor notes.

@Naturgrl Thanks for your feedback. He does have significant travel history to 4 other countries which includes UAE, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Both parents are retired and financially and emotionally dependant on him. So I am not sure what else can be provided to prove that.

That isn't travel history to IRCC. It is to countries like UK, US, NZ and AUS. Those countries have easy visa requirements...everyone is approved. So his parents are not a tie. He doesn't have to live there to give them money.

@Naturgrl Fair enough. Is there anything that can be done to rectify this situation? Do know if this rejection will impact getting visas to other countries specially the ones you mentioned?

He has to mention the refusal for any visa application. It should not impact as long as he mentions it.

As for being approved, it will be difficult because the reason is family ties. Explaining that parents are dependant on him is not a reason. He is over 22. Maybe try for US visa and travel to US and then apply for Canadian TRV.
