Valuable Souvenirs??

Hello Everyone.

I have a questions for anybody who would like to share.

My wife and I have a long distance relationship. We are going to file very soon.

we have hand-written letters, Scrap-books, Etc. Things that are very valuable to us.

Once we submit the application, Will we get everything back upon approval?... Or is it gone?

I know it is a simple question, but i would like to know if i should make copies and keep the copies and send the originals, or keep the originals and send the copies.

It was always my impression that you are to make copies of everything you send and keep the originals as their is no way to know if you will get them back. So VO's send them back others don't.

If they are that valuable to you, then you should make copies and send those instead of the originals. We had alot of handwritten letters and poems but sent copies of everything and it was fine.

I wouldn't take the risk of losing them!

some people sent originals and got them back; others didn't get anything back and they lost even more important originals; i guess at the end maybe it depends on the visa office too....

i would make copies also; first they have big sentimental value and second u never know if ur application will arrive complete; or maybe some papers could be lost or misplaced and they will ask u to send that proof again

Another thing to consider is it might be difficult to organize originals... we submitted cards, postcards, etc... instead of sending originals, we scanned them onto a page and printed it with any needed explanation right on the page. Makes it neater (also smaller and lighter for the sake of shipping!)

Don't submit any originals you'd be upset to lose unless you really feel it's necessary (something that won't copy or scan easily)... if nothing else then things can get lost in the mail. For that reason also make sure you keep copies or originals of everything you submit... there have been sad stories on here of people who's entire application gets lost and they didn't keep copies of phone records, cards, etc...

I will be only sending print outs.

I gues i will spend an entire day scanning everything i've got, but it is worth the hustle.
