Hi everyone,

Has anyone here applied for a US visitor visa while being a protected person in Canada (not a PR yet), but with a refugee travel document, work permit, and NOD?

* Was it approved easily or was it complicated?
* At the airport, did US immigration ask you a lot of questions or extra documents?

For context: I entered the US before on a visitor visa, stayed 5 days with my brother (he has a green card), and then crossed back at the legal Canadian land border in Alberta and applied for asylum.

Do you think it’s better to apply for the US visa now, or wait until I get Canadian PR (which can take 2+ years for refugees)?

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences!

You can certainly try but it has become much harder under Trump. The fact that you entered via the US may also complicate the process. Out together the strongest application possible if you have strong ties to Canada (longterm employment, housing, dependent family) as well as decent savings and see what happens Would also be planning for 3-5+ years for PR these days given the backlog.

Hello!
You can certainly apply for the b1b2 visa as I did this march and got it .
You just need to bring your notice of decision your work related document if you’re working . For me the process was smooth he asked me have I ever been to USA before I told him and he asked about my current status and I handed him over my notice of decision .

Hi you already did interview? My interview will be march

I applied and the officer was really rude and disrespectful with me. Said I can go to USA and remain there. Not good idea I think to apply while Trump is president. The new politics are totally anti immigrant.
But you can certainly try. Good luck.

I did in Vancouver.I will advise calling the Visa appointment line and inquire what to do..if the previous Visas were on your home country passport not sure it would count here .But if you have copies why not. Also be careful with having a lot of relatives in the US they can see it as a motive to deny you on grounds you may not come back.Three people infront of me got denied for that as they had a lot of relatives in the US.
