It is stated in the application information that a complete application is required or else they will send it back to you. However, many people have had no issues with attaching their FBI receipt to the application along with a note stating that processing times are long and that you will forward the document when you get it.

There is the risk that it may not make it to your application, or that a CIC agent will reject your application for being incomplete. It's a gamble.
Thanks for the information, fruitball4u! I think we'll just play it safe then and wait.

If it's only a month, I'd just wait. If you send the application now, you probably won't have AOR before the PC arrives, so you might have to wait even longer to send it in.

Just make sure to check over the forums for any updates when you do send it.

Will do! We're just a little bummed as we expected my report to be back within the next couple of weeks. It seems the FBI's backlog is growing as they mentioned they're working on Mid-September requests now.

When I had my FBI report done it took around 14-15 weeks, so you have to plan way ahead. Personally i would not sent in an imcomplete application. But that is just me. Merry Christmas!!

I'm intrigued, but hesitant…
Found out by reading some posts that you can make an appointment at a local CIC office to activate your COPR if you are already living in Canada. What I'm confused on is whether you have to be in Canada as on a visa (work or study or something of the sort), or if you can do this as a US citizen who is in Canada as a visitor (US is visa exempt, so you would just have a stamped passport).

Here's the link on the CIC site with the info: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=748&t=22
(It says you need: our proof of legal status in Canada, such as a valid work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit, or visitor document, or any immigration document you have (whether valid or not)". Can a stamped US passport as a visitor to Canada be a visitor document?

Would be awesome if my man who is here visiting right now could just stay and get his copr activated in town rather than flying out and back in.

Yes you can. They say the same thing for land border landings but they didn't even ask to see my husband's. But, only some major cities have a CIC office.
Other places may have itinerant services at certain times.

CIC offices: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/help.asp#bc

Itinerant services listing: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contact_us/offices/itinerant.asp

You must phone the helpline to make an appointment.

I assume you live far from a land border? I think flying would be more expensive than driving from pretty much anywhere in Canada to the border.

We have a CIC office here in Edmonton where we are. My husband has been here for a couple of months on a US passport as a visitor.
I'll call after Christmas to ensure they will accept his passport stamp as a visitor document.
Would be definitely cheaper and easier than flying out and back in!

Hi gang,
New to this thread but basically my hubby is moving to BC from OH. Lots of info in the thread but I was hoping some of you could provide some quick answers:

1) is anyone else having FBI delays? They have his docs but he had to fax credit card for payment (despite that having been included). They said they got the fax but still not processed (3 weeks ago now). Total weeks waiting 16 weeks
2) on average how long is the process taking for the applications after SA?
3) is he able to extend beyond the 6 month visiting limit? His job is letting him work remotely from here.

Thanks & happy holidays!

Hi Unicornpants!

1) Sounds like it's delayed a bit due to the missing or wrong CC info, I assume they couldn't process the card or something of that nature.
2) The total time for most applications is 4-9 months. SA usually takes 2 months. So if you are lucky, another couple months up to 7 more months.
3) Yes, at the 5 month mark send in an application to "change conditions or extend your stay". He can do it online.

Thanks a bunch! Do you know where for #3? The links we have looked at seem to imply he's working here and that sort of thing.

I have a question regarding the "proof of relationship" section of the application. For letters and other documents, do we need to provide the actual letters (originals) or are copies acceptable?

Thanks!
