Sunset, I just saw your original post. Totally missed it he first time. Thanks for replying.

We had sent photos with our original package too. I'm thinking this request was either because 6montha have passed since the original photos were taken, or because they have just recently changed the PR photo specifications to match the passport photo ones.

Anyway, I'm currently in line at the post office to send new ones. Priority list is supposed to be next day, but the lady is saying that still means 3 days.... Interesting.

Best of luck to us!

Hello everyone,

I am a new member and wanted to share my timeline to see predictions on how long the whole process is going to take, share my experience, and ask you questions when I have any.

This is a great forum from I could read so far!

I am a Canadian citizen from Vancouver and am sponsoring my husband (US citizen).

Timeline:

Application mailed: 8 October 2015
Receipt of Application/Start Processing Application : 28 November 2015
Sponsor Eligibility Decision/File Transfer to CPP-Ottawa: 10 December 2015

Now waiting on the next step, hoping status of the actual PR application for my husband to change into In Process in early 2016.

Ours is a complete application - right of PR fee paid, upfront medical done and FBI clearance included in the package.

How long do you think it’s going to take the application to be finalized? Is the processing time for CPP-Ottawa (17 months) on the website realistic? Does it really take that long?

Many thanks.

We always send everything UPS....When they say it will be delivered tomorrow by 10:30 am its normally there at 9 am...with us for some reason every time they asked for something other then at the interview they wanted picture...When we first started all this in 2009 Walgreens did not have a clue how to make Canadian passport picture and it was a good 45 mins in the store and we had to help ...today took 10 mins...I now wonder how long it will take to get the COPR ?...I have not heard of this before but hey its CIC...

No, most US applicants are processed within 8-10 months, some in recent months have been done in as little as four. Check out the spreadsheets for better information!

Hello! I have a question and I was wondering if anyone would know the answer. I have been in Canada for 2 years on a visitor visa. My husband and I applied for permanent residency in November of 2015. My visitor pass is up as of December 30,2015 . I have heard a lot of conflicting stories and I wanted to make sure I do not mess up. Since I applied for PR do I still need to apply for a visitor extension? Or am I on implied status till a decision is made for PR? I asked a few days ago.. No one answered

I believe, and someone senior may want to correct me if I'm mistaken, that you are given implied status with your PR application. However, if you leave Canada for any reason or any duration of time, you automatically will lose your implied status. If you aren't going to leave, you may be just fine, but if you think there is any possibility that you may need to, I would be sure to re-apply for a visitor permit. While it isn't cheap (I think it's $125?), you should not have any issue being granted one since you've already applied for PR - just be sure to reference your application and show proof of payment.

Personally, I'd extend my visitor visit, because life can be unpredictable and who knows if you'll need to leave or not. Obviously the visitor permit doesn't guarantee access back into the country either, but it would be a lot more compelling than to not have one at all.

Thank you Fruitball. I really appreciate the info. I called the Cic and was finally able to get a hold of someone and they told me that I do not have implied status. They also told me that if I went across the boarder to renew that I had the risk of not being able to get back at all.

The only way you get implied status is if you submit an INLAND application before your status expires, with an OWP. It's actually the OWP that gives you the status, not the PR application.

But how have you been in Canada on a visa for 2 years? For one, US citizens are visa-exempt. They only sometimes get a visitor record. Have you renewed your status every 6 months? If you haven't then you are out of status already.

I know why they wanted new photos..they changed the size of the photos....

Husband and I received an email on Dec. 3rd asking for two new Immigration size photos... So I guess a lot of us are in the same boat. We still don't have DM though.

Hi there, My husband and I started his immigration finally in Aug/2015. We rec'd SA shortly after. On Nov 6 we rec'd our AOR (is that what it's called?). I keep checking our Ecas everyday and it just states In Process. Any idea how long it takes to go from IP to DM? The waiting is driving me nuts. Now to give correct info, All of our documents were sent in at once; medical, fingerprints, payments up front for everything and so forth. If i'm missing any info please let me know. I'm new to this.
