I was once a PR when I was grade 2, as a dependent child with my parent. However, my whole family move out 1 year after landing and no longer live in Canada for over 20 years.
I get married to a Canadian husband and our daughter is also a Canadian citizen now. We are going to Canada next month to celebrate my daughter birthday with my family-in-law. When I apply eTA, it requires me to either apply PR travel document (unlikely I can apply it as I have not met Residency Obligation) or renounce PR status to apply eTA. I went to Canada for several time as visitor with visa-exempt passport before implication of eTA. But now, I cannot enter Canada as I cannot get eTA.
I do not have PR card, so I must apply eTA to enter Canada. But husband and I are very worried that if I renounce my PR status, will our future spousal sponsorship application be rejected? As we plan to move back to Canada within 2-3years.
Is it possible to apply spousal sponsorship after renounce my PR status?
Thanks a lot.

When exactly did you get married? Time spent living abroad with a Canadian citizen spouse counts towards your residency obligation, so if you've been married at least 2 years you may now be back in compliance with RO and could possibly get a PR Travel Document to go to Canada. I'm not sure though exactly how CIC would treat this kind of situation.

In case you decide to renounce your PR status to get eTA and travel to Canada, it would be no problem for your husband to sponsor you in the future when your family is ready to move back to Canada permanently.

Also technically you can skip the eTA and fly on visa-exempt passport up until Sept 29. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1235&top=16

So unlucky, I get married for 1year11months and I fly on Sept 30 :(. So I have no choice but renounce my PR first.
Thanks a lot.
