I applied for a Super Visa extension, and I received a request from IRCC on April 16, 2025 to complete a new Immigration Medical Exam (IME) within 30 days (by May 16, 2025).

However, I already completed an IME in September 2021, which is within 5 years, and according to IRCC’s public policy (extended to October 5, 2029), applicants in Canada applying for temporary residence (including Super Visa extensions) may be exempt from a new IME if:

  • The previous IME was within 5 years,
  • The applicant currently resides in Canada,
  • The previous medical exam showed no risk to public health or safety.

Believing I qualify, I submitted multiple WebForm enquiries asking IRCC to confirm whether my 2021 IME will be accepted or if I must complete a new one. Here are the dates I sent enquiries:

  • April 16, 2025 – Initial request for confirmation of exemption
  • April 22, 2025 – Follow-up for clarification
  • May 1, 2025 – Urgent follow-up as the deadline approached
  • May 7, 2025 – Another follow-up requesting clear direction
  • May 12, 2025 – Final follow-up requesting deadline extension or updated medical exam letter

The 30-day deadline expired on May 16, 2025, but I have not received any clear response yet.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone applied for a Super Visa extension in Canada and faced a similar IME request?
  2. What should I do now since the IME deadline has passed and I’m still waiting for IRCC’s reply?
  3. Is it possible to get an extension or have IRCC accept a previous IME after the deadline?
  4. How can I effectively get a clear answer or escalate my case when WebForm replies are delayed or unclear?

Thank you for any advice or shared experiences.

Do you have any answers to this issue apart from identifying mistakes in vocabulary? If not, then shut your bloody mouth.
It's not a vocabulary choice. It's the type of visa/application. And Super Visa cannot be extended.

The visitor can apply to extend his/her stay.

You have left out the important part of the public policy.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...application/medical-police/medical-exams.html

You may be exempt from completing another IME if you meet all of these conditions:
  • you applied or are applying for either permanent residence or temporary residence
  • you already live in Canada
  • you completed your previous IME in the last 5 years
  • your previous IME indicated a low risk or no risk to public health or public safety
It's up to IRCC to request a new IME or grant an exemption, specially for older people under super visa.

IRCC have delays in all kinds of applications. So it's unlikely that you will get a respond before the deadline. Your choice to take the risk and submit your previous IME receipt. Or get another IME done as requested within 30 days.
