US board certification in most medical sciences is reciprocal with the Canadian standards. Australia gladly accepts US grads, if anything Canada is right next door. It isn't as different as you think, unless you talk about the meager salaries and the socialized healthcare system!

I much rather have 10 times your so called socialized healthcare system here in Canada than that s*&? system the US have, oh wait, there isn't any.

It depends on your situation. If you have a good job in the US, your company will buy you very good health coverage. So health care for the middle class or better is no problem there really.

Nothing is really free you know. Someone is paying for your Dr. appointment tomorrow. That someone includes yourself, if you are working class paying taxes...

oh yeah the $12 that was taken out of my paycheck totally compares to the $200/month I was paying for insurance. Right now, I pretty much pay the same in taxes I would have paid for a copay to see the doctor (which was of course ON TOP of my monthly premium). my tax money also goes to unemployment protection, canadian pension, snow removal, road projects, public education, etc.

not to mention the 4% vacation pay canadian employers pay part time employees usually cancels out my tax contributions anyway. yes, canadian employers pay part time employees a percentage in "vacation pay" because we are not entitled to taking vacation days. the horror!

do you actually live and work in the us? does your employer pay 100% healtcare for you and your family? if so, congrats. you are certainly lucky to have found such a great employer.

not all employers are required to pay for healthcare for their employees, nor do they pay 100% healtcare. most people get money taken out of their paycheck to pay a portion of the premium.

It's a good thing that Canada has so many willing to pay more taxes to the government. No wonder the system here works. Look at Obama trying to establish universal health care down south. It puts much more burden on the middle class. Yes, they have to take money out of their pay check for health coverage, and now they have to take much more out because of that!

and what about the people who make 6, 7 & 8 figure salaries who don't pay their share in taxes just because they make 6, 7, 8 figure salaries. or how about the "representatives" of the people who get paid 6 & 7 figures who choose not to show up for work, not be productive, enjoy free lifelong benefits for doing nothing and pay nothing in taxes? yeah, let the rich get richer. at least in canada, middle class has a fighting chance.

There is a difference between being a capitalist and a fool. Look how well the Scandinavian countries are doing or some parts in Europe. I am from Switzerland, we are capitalists, too, but to look after each other, what is wrong with that? What is the problem of sharing? If I have 1 Dollar and I give away 10 cents, I still have 90 cents? I just don't get the US way of thinking. It is better to spend trillions on wars and other shyte than looking after your own people? Education, healthcare etc.

to be fair, being a us citizen definitely affords me a lot of luxury and freedoms i would not have otherwise, and i'm grateful for that. there ARE good things about the US. unfortunately, i don't agree with what is happening to every day people who can barely afford life.
