Hi,

I completed my softlanding at Detroit Windsor tunnel yesterday.
The officer but did not ask for a canada address for PR

I thought we could change the address later online using : https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/introduction.do?app=coanotify

But i always get an error saying:
We were not able to identify you using the information you provided. There could be three possible reasons:

  • Please be sure the information you entered is correct and then try again.
But I am sure my information is correct.
Except for "Place of Birth"....it is a dropdown of countries. But in my application "Place of Birth" is a town/city.
Not sure how to override that.

Did anybody face this issue recently.?? Is there anything else we can do to add the address (to friends place) where the PR card can be sent
_
I tried to call a number i found on the site, to Global Affairs Canada, but they begin by saying dont ask about immigration.

I have faced the same issue and I have created a web form request to update the address. I am still waiting for their response.

I had similar issue where the visa officer refused to send PR card to a temporary address. I used the webform request to send them address for the PR card. I actually did webform request twice, never received any response back but directly received my PR card in about 45 days.

Thats good news. I have sent a webform request. Hoping to see the card delivered in 2 months.

I was also reading that PR card should not be send across Canada border into US. But seems like that is Ok if we provide customs declaration?

Oh didn't read it carefully. Did you provide USA address then? also didn't get what you are you suggesting about customs declaration?

Oh no....i gave my friends address through the webform. Once he receives it he will fedex me the card. I was wondering if customs will have some issue with PR card being sent to USA

Yes, I have read most of the ppl are not facing any issues with sending back via Fedex. But also saw one post where someone said they used USA address for PR card delivery even though it is not supposed to.

BTW where did you do your CoPR landing procedures? Did you share your details yet on the forum? Want to check out the details if you have. I am planning my landing and coming back right after this Thursday at Detroit Windsor Tunnel. Hoping very much that it works out without any issues.

I went to the canada border at detroit- windsor tunnel, completed the formalities and came back immediately. The whole process took about an hour max.

I went in my own car. Did confirm with my insurance if we had coverage in Canada, and they said yes.
On the USA side, there is a toll that has to be paid by credit card before entering the tunnel for 5$.

Once you cross the tunnel there was the first station on the Canada side.
An officer asks you why you are coming to canada? I said to finalize my PR....She checks my passport and COPR. Asks me to remove my mask to verify.
When I said I would like to return immediately after the process is completed, the officer took a form and put it in front of my car under the wind shield.
She then pointed me to a building nearby and asked to meet another officer at the parking.

The new officer took my COPR and asked me to sign both copies.
He asked why I was landing today and why I wanted to return immediately.
I said my copr is about to expire and didnt want to wait as covid situation could worsen.
He then asked when we are planning to settle...we said sometime next year....I felt like maybe he was looking for something more specific, but he didnt push it.

He then asked my goods to follow list....and asked for my car title as I had put my car in the list.
He went inside and after some time came back with one copy of copr stapled to my passport and goods to follow list stamped.
He said "Congrats, you are a Canada PR from today. You can use the attached COPR to enter Canada BY LAND anytime. Not air. Also, bring the goods to follow list"

I was hoping he would ask for a Canada address to send the PR card, but he never did. I didnt ask either as I thought we could update it online.

He then wrote another form and put it in front of the windsheild and told that. "Show it to the officers at US border. It would address the reason you came to Canada, and would mention that you did not enter the country." He escorted us back to the Detroit-Windsor tunnel

Back at the USA border:
Officer: What is your business here?
Me: Just went to canada border to finalize our PR
Gave the passport and pointed to the form on the windsheild.
Officer: What do you do? What visa are you on?
Me: Software engineer, H1b
Officer: you are good to go.

:) Did not step out of the car

Perfect. Thank you so much for the full details. And many congratulations on your PR. I also almost decided not to complete CoPR landing procedures due to uncertainty and was thinking to fill out the webform for not traveling. Then lately read a few ppl were able to go complete the process and come back immediately. so finally took the courage to do the same. I have to travel from SFO with my wife/daughter so was getting more nervous and trying to prepare for all possibilities.

Thank you again for your detailed experience. Really helpful.

Yes I was going to do the same, but luckily I saw these posts from others on this site and FB. I haven't seen any posts where the Canada officials did not agree to let someone return immediately, even though some officers might not take it well. Good luck to you too.
