. I have received my PR in November 2024 and my passport is also stamped. Recently, I changed my apple phone and discarded the old one. I installed authenticator app in my new phone but it doesnt show " Govt of Canada" where I used to receive 6 digit codes. Neither I am able to find my recovery codes.
I wanted to see if I have received any new message in my account. Please tell me how do I login?
If you’ve lost access to your authenticator app for the Government of Canada (GCKey) and don’t have recovery codes, you’ll need to take the following steps to regain access to your account:
1. Use Backup Options
First, check if you set up any backup authentication methods when enabling 2FA (e.g., SMS-based authentication or backup codes). If you did:
• Choose the backup method when logging in.
• Enter the required verification code.
If no backup option was set up, proceed to reset your account.
2. Reset Your GCKey Account
Unfortunately, there’s no way to bypass 2FA without recovery codes. You will need to create a new GCKey account and link it to your IRCC profile. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Create a New GCKey Account
1. Go to the
GCKey login page.
2. Select “Sign Up” and create a new GCKey account.
3. Complete the registration process and sign in with your new credentials.
Step 2: Link Your New GCKey to Your IRCC Profile
1. After logging into your new account, select “Link an existing application to this account” on the home page.
2. Enter the details of your application:
• Program type (e.g., Permanent Residence).
• Application number and Unique Client Identifier (UCI).
• Personal details (passport number, date of birth, etc.).
3. Once verified, your application and messages will appear in the new account.
3. Contact IRCC for Additional Assistance
If you’re unable to link your application to a new GCKey account:
• Submit a web form inquiry to IRCC explaining the issue:
IRCC Web Form.
• Include details about your situation (lost 2FA access, need to view messages, etc.).
• Attach any supporting documents (e.g., your PR approval letter or passport copy with the visa stamp).
4. Prevent Future Issues
• Save Recovery Codes: When you regain access, save your recovery codes in a secure location.
• Enable a Backup Option: Consider enabling SMS authentication as a secondary method.
