Would the e-mail response I have from the Canadian Embassy in Moscow (which would also be the VO) basically telling me to not renew my passport in Russia help? Their response was essentially: we cannot help you. In fact, we cancel your passport and visa, so that really screws you. Leave Russia then come back.
To renew it in Finland takes about 4-5 weeks, then another 4 weeks for the visa support documents, then about a week for the actual visa. All that pushes me really close to the 90 day limit in the Schengen area.

I don't think our case will be easy, but I do think we have a good chance. Now it's just a matter of falling into one of the qualifying categories.

We are looking into Mexico to get married. We're also still trying to figure out where to get the documents to get married in Iceland, which I think would be ideal.

And yes, I am grateful that Canada recognizes my relationship. Evidently, it is not seen as valid where I currently live. It's sad how that works. Unfortunately my future mother-in-law has stated that gays are sick people and should be locked up and treated.
