TRV confusing forms

Hi, I came to Canada on aTRV with my husband who was a student here. My visa expired and I applied for the extension. They sent me a letter which allowed me to stay in Canada. But I cannot leave and re-enter the country. I was asked to re apply for TRV. I started filling the form and realized it's the same form I filled before and instead I got a permission letter to stay in Canada not the visa. Can anyone of you help me with selecting the right form for TRV within Canada? I'm really in need of help. I have to travel abroad for few weeks due to an emergency but my visa is becoming a obstacle.

IMM5257 is for TRV.

IMM5708 is for extending stay.

I filled IMM5257 before and they just extended my stay. That's what I'm confused about
