Hey all

So we applied for a PR application via the spousal route as I got married to my wife in April of this year and sent the application in June. Since then, I have been here in Canada as a visitor. My 6 month visitor visa did expire recently but I got approval for a visitor record to allow me to stay here until Aug 2014. I am planning to go back to the UK next month for a couple of weeks and return. Now I have 2 questions:

1) Is it ok for me to travel to the UK and come back in without any issues? I applied as an Outland application. I understand Inland applications limits one's movements in and out of Canada.

2) I'm assuming an IO will grant me another 6 month stamp making my extension void, although I guess it is a good idea to keep my visitor record with me and proof of the PR application to show the IO when coming back into the country?

Hi,

1) Not in the context of your visit visa being valid until 2014. Your visit visa expires as soon as you leave Canada.
2) Sure, carry it with you but DON'T give the officer the impression that you think you should "automatically" be allowed re-entry based on your previous visa (will be previous at that point). I'd say don't even mention your previous visa (they will probably see it in their system anyway), but certainly show them your proof of PR application.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I am trying to work out the best thing to do here. I mean it would be great to go to the UK and visit my family and friends but at the same time I do not want to jeopardize the PR process or chance being split up from my wife if the IO denies me re-entry. Anyone care to help make a decision for me? :-)

GO have a GOOD time!!! They're prolly gonna let you back in with nary a peep about any of all this.

So, do you have an actual visitor record in your passport? I have one of those and never have a problem crossing land borders between US and Canada. Only once I got told my record was about to expire and I should go in and renew it, so I did just that :D
