Border crossing during outland process

I was in Canada on a work permit for 2 years. The last permit expired last week. I applied for PR outland last year and I'm still waiting for approval. I applied for a visitor record in January to be able to stay in Canada after my work permit expired.

I just travelled to the US by plane. On the way back, United Airlines wanted to see a valid visa or a plane ticket for outside US/Canada. Lucky I had my visitor record.

The border officer in Calgary didn't have any questions about work or PR. He saw my visitor record and gave me a 6-month stamp in my passport.

Many people here are always worried to cross the border after an expired work permit. But you just have to be prepared and everything is fine. I was worried as well
