Traveling , while PR is in process.

I have already asked this before, but,, my husband and I have started PR process in Nov 2009. and havent heard a thing yet, hopefully soon. we hear however it could be yearsssss. now my husband and I want to go to Mexico for a week (sunshine) is that possible I cant see Canada expecting anyone to stay here for years, what if something happens in our home country?? and we have to go back, I am just not understanding this part..????

You'll need clarify for us: did you apply inland or outland? If you applied outland, then travelling to Mexico for a week shouldn't be an issue at all. If you applied inland, then it's not advisable to travel. Of course no one will stop you from going, but you may not be allowed to re-enter Canada, in which case your application would be forfeited and you would need to start the process all over again.
