Has anyone tried this? I heard that they will most likely be rejected but still I do see some successful cases.

I am going to Canada with my son and if my wife's application is not approved in a month or so we will have to leave first without her, meaning my child had to be separated from his mother which is not fair. Do you think the officer would take this into account when considering the TRV application?

Best of luck all

Of course many people tried this and many were successful. Many were unsuccessful.
Depends on many factors - your wife's citizenship, reasons for visiting Canada, etc, etc.
Just put in strong reasons why your wife wants to visit Canada with her Canadian child will leave Canada as planned and not overstay and submit it.
You might get approved. Or you might not. The most you'll lose is the application fee.

Just make sure you convince the visa officer that your wife does not intend to overstay and jeopardize her chances for PR . Give a valid reason for the visa officer for her visit. I gave the officer my wife needs to spend time with on my birthday ( Her spousal sponsorship is in process). Be honest and there is no reason to believe they will reject it.
Good luck
