Re: Got a question regarding citizenship and pr renewal

To determine when you will qualify to apply for citizenship, you should use the residency calculator on the CIC site. Here's the link:

1. Well I don't think anyone is going to sit down and do the math, as I assume you are quite capable at addition and subtraction.
2. For your PR renewal, you take the date of 13/08/12 and subtract the days you were outside Canada. So 1081 - x = no. of days in Canada, greater than 730 you renew your PR card, if less you wait until you have 730 days.
3. For citizenship from today's date, you take 1460 days (4 years) subtract all your absences between 03/08/2008 and today. If you have less than 1095 days, you can't apply for citizenship.

Re: Question ?

I don't know why I am so nice but here goes. All your trips to Canada are relatively short. You will therefore not meet the 730 day requirement at the time your PR card expires. You must let your PR card expire and continue to stay in Canada without leaving. According to my calculations, you can not apply to renew your PR card until the 13th of October 2013. At that point, your first 3 trips to Canada have moved outside the 5 year window and will not count. You will be able to count your trip in 2009 of 94 days and the next three trips of 16, 41 and 3 days. Your last stay of 15.03.12 until 13.10.13 will be 577 days, total of 731 days. It is actually better to wait a little longer to have more days. It will make it less likely to get an RQ. Keep in mind that for PR, both your travel days count.

You will not be eligible to apply for citizenship until March 14th 2015 because you spent such a long time outside Canada in 2011 and early 2012. By the time you have enough days, the only trip that will count for you is the last 3 day trip but for citizenship it will only count as 2. Again, it is better to wait a bit longer before you apply.

Re: Question ?

Hi,

Leon last question in the citizenship it is like you have to apply for the last 4 years right.. so as of if i apply for pr renewal on november 2013 but i am residing in canada say as of i get my pr card in march 2014 then,

i apply for citizenship on november 2014 so the date of the application they count 4 years back so it is november 2010 since and i stayed in 10 decemeber 2010 to 19 january 2011 and also 12 may 2011 and 14 may 2011 so wont these two trips count for citizenship as it falls under the preceding for years for citizenship ?

Hope to get your reply soon

The current processing time is 74 days, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp so if you apply in November 2013, you might get it sometime in Jan-Feb 2014.

If you want to apply for citizenship say November 15, 2014, you would count your days from November 2010 until November 2014. You would count the trip you made in December 2010 which for citizenship is 40 days and your other trip in May 2011 which is 2 days and your stay from 15.03.12 until 15.11.14 is only 975 days so total you have only 1017 days in 4 years while to apply for citizenship, you need 1095. Like I said in my last post, you will not have enough days to apply for citizenship until March 2015 and then your trip of 40 days will have moved outside the 4 year window.
