thanks missinghim, so i am going to vietnam soon within 2 weeks, I go to the cdn office down there in Vietnam ask for a canadian citizenship card for him, and then apply for a canadian passport. I heard that my son may need a dna test to be done with me and him, is that correct? His canadian citizenship card and passport should be ready beofre my wife gets approved to come over to canada because the 2nd stage takes 18 months as it says on the website. Thanks for your info.

Wow, Kaz! That's excellent news! Congrats! :) I keep watching for some further news here but.... I'm in Canada, and we don't get mail on Saturdays. Stupid no news weekends. ;) I'm very excited for good news Monday.

Me too! I can't wait to receive initial assessment. It seems like we're next. :)

Clarkie0620, did you guys get an email or anything yet?

I'm really nervous about the initial assessment, am really hoping interview is waived as it looks like that would add another couple months on to the entire process.

I know there is no majic number, but does anyone have an idea of how long it takes to receive an Initial Assessement after you received your AOR? I'm particularly interested in the Buffalo timelines.

Tks,

Tks,

Anywhere from a week to a few months. Sometimes you don't even hear back until PPR. Check out Buffalo's spreadsheet for a general idea of the timelines. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AshtbJBRA_XjdFN3aHBiTDNpMEZFVmoxRnc0ZWZBY2c&hl=en&authkey=CLSRv0c&pli=1#gid=0

I rec'd notice of AOR on March 8. Then ecas said IN PROCESS as of March 3. Then on March 11, I got the letter saying initial assesement was completed. So it seems the assesement took from March 3 to March 9ish...allowing for mail time for the letter to reach me on March 11. All communication I/hubby have rec'd has been by mail...nothing by email.
I currently live with hubby in Arizona. I have been here and married for 14 yrs and have dual citizenship.

I think I should start packing.....

Kaz

The spreadsheet is a good tool but dont get too bogged down in it. Dont forget that not everyone will come back on the forums on a regular basis to update they standings.
Sometimes no rhyme or reason to a what a govt. agency does.

We didnt need a DNA test. It was not even mentioned to us.
But everyone's situation is different.

Are you applying inland or outland to sponsor your wife because you mentioned 2nd stage takes 18 mths... or does Vietnam take long to process outland appl. Im just curious. Its nice you'll be with your wife and son soon. I know youve been waiting patiently. You are strong and so are they.

@ missinghim, yes I am applying to bring my wife and son into canada(outland). It says 2nd stage process takes 18 months on the CIC website for Singapore, could be quicker, but Im ready for the longest time because of the 1st stage process took longer then 2 months. I heard from a friend that was a PR when sponsoring his wife and son that was born in vietnam too had to do a DNA test to bring him over. Hopefully I don't need to do a DNA test because I know he is my son already and I don't have the money to spare for it, but if i need to then I would of course do it because it is for the future of my son and that is worth it.

Just got a letter from CIC in the mail! I was super excited and then....

...Just my extended Visitor's Record so I can continue to stay with my husband while we wait. Good news, but not the good news I was hoping for! Anyone else have news today?

hey guys,
nope...still nothing :( i'm really hoping to hear something this afternoon, cuz im starting to get worried now...hope the application hasn't gotten lost in transit or something...will def. let you guys know as soon as i do.

Hi Clarkie! You will hear something soon, I'm sure. I haven't heard anyone from Buffalo saying they got news today... which is disappointing. I was looking forward to a good news Monday! But, it could come any time. :) Just keep an eye on the applicant's e-mail and junk e-mail... and the mailbox.

Let us know as soon as you hear. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you (and everyone else that's still waiting).

Trying to stay calm about this whole process, but as others have stated, it is difficult.

My wife is a Canadian citizen who is sponcoring me so we can live together in Canada after her visa runs out here in the States.
We turned in all of our paperwork in late December and so far have recieved a letter on Jan. 28, stating our application was complete and was being sent onto Buffalo. When we log onto the CIC system it says our Sponsorship status is "Decision Made" but our Perm Res App Status is "Not Available." I'm starting to worry that it should say "In Progress" My wife's job ends here in May and we were hoping to move to Canada the first of June. Anyone think we'll make it? What should I be doing now?

Thank you for any advice.

Hi Ganapatiom. :) You're actually in the same boat as many other's here in this thread. About half of our Buffalo group has not has an AOR (Aknowledgement of Receipt) yet, and only one of us (that I'm aware of) has moved to "In Process".

I have received my AOR, but I haven't had any updates on eCAS yet - it is still the same as yours.

However, that said, we have had some AOR's now, and we do have one person who is In Process and has received their Initial Assessment... so they are starting to work on the December group and we're starting to see some progress.

Hard to be patient, but you should receive news soon (within the next week or two). Just keep an eye on this thread and you should see some progress up to those who submitted their applications around the same time as you did.

Hello Ganapatiom,

Your case is very similar to a lot of us. My file was also sent late December, and I received a letter dated Jan 25, that file is complete and our file is sent to Buffalo. My e-cas says the same thing. So your file is being processed in the same way as everyone else. It's jsut that Buffalo office is not too good with updating the e-cas and even other progress. If you observe this December thread, you will see that some of them who sent their file early December, just started receiving their AOR, which is Acknowledgement of Receipt, and it basically can come in the Principal Applicant's email or at their mailing address. So we still need to wait for that. You can see the usual format of file processing at Buffalo from the spreadsheet link in my signature below. Although you will note that Buffalo has slowed down for some reason and now it's taking more than 3-4 months to process the files.

Now, the visa on which your wife is, is it a visitor visa? or like a work visa? Can it be renewed ? There are chances you should be fine until then...but those chances are very slim. My husband's visa expires on March 25, but he is getting it renewed and as soon as we get confirmation for that I will mail it to Buffalo. Because Buffalo definitely wants the applicant to have a proper permit/visa to stay in US while they process your file.
