Fantastic news! Great to year landing at Pearsons is easy. Which US city did you go through? We are thinking LAX because of the time it lands at Pearsons is early evening.

We actually came via Hong Kong and landed at around 2 in the arvo.
It took a little while only because there was a number of flights landing at the same time, so going through customs was slow. The rest was quick and everyone was friendly.
So happy to be here, although still jet lagged!

Last year returning from holidays I did Sydney-LAX-Pearson. I would give yourself 3 hours at LAX. We had an hour and a half and it was EXTREMELY tight. It's a massive airport and if I recall, you go from the international terminal to domestic, which means collecting your luggage and rechecking it. We were running through the airport and barely made it!

Agrr. We are looking at AKL-LAX-Pearsons and the transit is 2.5 hours. We were expecting to have to collect our bags and go through US customs but I'm surprised you have to go international to domestic! I thought we would have stayed in the international - one of the reasons we are not planning to go via Vancouver.

Are you guys shown on the 2015 Outland spreadsheet?

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FAYZyQgud1lzp7fM28i2O8ZrfbMAxdTc_t7_fiwI6ak/edit#gid=658388151

It really helps those (esp for Stage 1) get a sense for when their applications will be processed. There are some good charts on subsequent tabs...

Ahmadtajwer....wow! you received AOR within 6 days??? The 2015 spreadsheet is showing AOR's of about 35 - 40 days now...

C.
No actually I just got the file back in a week as there was a signature missing, i signed electronically but they needed the actual signature as well, haven't recvd AOR yet :(

Hi,

I am an Australian Citizen living in Calgary with my Canadian (citizen) Common-law partner. I am currently on a working holiday visa (my second) finishing June 2016 and am looking at applying inland vs outland - family sponsorship. The draw backs for applying inland is that the processing time is doubled, which could be offset by being able to obtain the OWP. I would rather apply outland - using the Sydney office, however I would like to know the rate in which interviews were required/waived. It is alot of money to fly back for an interview without making an informed decision first.

Would it be possible to apply outland using a different country? The Paris processing times is approximately 5months and would be easier to get to.

Thanks for your help in advance.

You don't get to choose the visa office. Australians rarely get called for interviews. I would say it's probably closer to triple or worse for inland. We were done and dusted in exactly 6 months.

I didn't realise that you didn't get to choose the visa office. Thanks bigredmoose.

I was also thinking that it was worth it, especially if my current visa is going to run out in 11 months and I don't think that I am eligible for another working holiday visa with the new changes (now Aussies can only get one 2 year visa before your 31).

For an Australian applying outland, 11 months would be really, really long! Having said that, I wouldn't delay. If need be can you go a few months without working?

Yea, I can go a few months without working no problem. Just don't want to have to leave the country because we are planning our wedding in Canada in July 2016 just a few weeks after my working holiday visa runs out!

I also have my QLD drivers extract that I used for my working holiday visa, it is just over a year old but I have been in Canada for 90% of that time. Do you think that I need to get a new one?

This is pretty much my situation (my WHP visa is good until Jan 2017), we decided to go the outland route. Worst case scenario if your visa gets close to expiring and still no decision, apply for a visitor extension. You won't be able to work but you can remain in Canada.

I would order a new one, make sure its the full history too. I'm from vic and I know that the abstract for the WHP visa is different that the full history search for the PR app.

Yea thanks kangamoose. Now I just have to find a way to get it. Had to hand my drivers licence over to get an Albertan one (they don't allow you to hold two), and dont have any of the other documents to verify my identity!

Good luck with your application.
