No news... Sigh... We are now 59 days from last correspondence which was when they requested a VICroads check - which wasn't even necessary for us - and 141 days since arrival in Sydney. Thinking maybe we will be going for the record of longest processing time at this rate!
Suppose it might be because we are only common law? And my boyfriend is an English citizen not Australian? Ah well, if it's not here by December he is going to apply for IEC so at least he can get working...
Good luck to all as always!

I am common law also with my partner. I'd always wondered if applications were prioritized in order of married, common law and then conjugal. I don't think it's just your application, I'm sure sydney have their reasons for slowing down. You never know what's around the corner though right!
I'll keep you in my prayers.

And yeah from what I've read if a person has lived in a few different countries the background check can take a little longer. Though that is based on my own opinion of other threads I have read. I wouldn't be alarmed though, I've looked at the spreadsheet and whether people just aren't updating there seems to be little update from Sydney office. Like I said though holidays are just coming to an end in Canada and kids going to school and I'm sure they process more than family class apps. At least and comfortingly we are all in the same boat. I haven't had any update on my status other than processing application, medical results recieved. Grant me patience :)

nothing here either.. we are married, almost 9 years now and have two kids(who are dual citizens) so I don't think common law/married means anything with processing times.

fingers crossed that we hear something soon!! :)

Yeah from looking at various spreadsheets of processing times (at Sydney and other places) it really doesn't look like there is any sort of priority based on marital status, it seems to be first-come, first-served. Though I'm guessing some applications take longer than others based on lack of evidence or some other red flags.

We just haven't heard a peep from the Sydney VO since MrJB got approved. It makes me wonder if something happened at the office there, like a key employee retired or something. Or maybe they are shifting around their policies - like straightforward applications being processed in Canada like they seem to be now - and changing things around is causing a hold-up... :p No idea! About a month ago I was hoping to hear something, so I sent them an email asking if they'd gotten my FBI police certificate (I sent it in after), and I got back:

Thank you for your email. Please be advised that your FBI Police Certificate was received by our office on the 30/06/2014 and has been attached to your file for processing.
Your file is currently in progress.
No other word though, and still says "Application Received" on ECAS...

I wonder why it has slowed down so much in Sydney... I have no hope in getting my PR before my visa expires now :(.

My recommendation to you is save save save save and get yourself a visitor visa to keep you there in the interim if you are concerned about returning home.

Hey everybody,

We haven't heard anything from Sydney office either. My husband was asked to submit a police check(again, even though we sent one with our file). That was back in October, they received it via UPS Nov 4th 2013 and we have not heard anything since. Our application was in process sometime in the last week of October. Fingers crossed! We've put all our travelling plans on hold just in case we hear anything from them.

Well I'm hoping I can get a bridging open work permit now which will allow me to stay and work. I had to put a CEC application too so I'll see which one gets approved first. Flying back to Australia is going to be a costly trip... and I don't think I can stay in Canada and not work for the next 11mths... or however mths it will take for the application to be approved. I'm like kinda stuck at the moment because I don't know what the future is gonna hold.

I didn't think there was a bridging visa for Canada, if there is that would be awesome! But in all my research I haven't found anything like that.
Geez, October is a long wait Aslank, at least you're now past the processing time so you can get in touch with them to see what the hold up is? Hope you get it soon....and I really hope ours doesn't take that long :/

Bridging open work permit is only applicable for people who have applied under economic class ie Canadian Experience Class, and have a work permit which will expire within 4 mths. Once you get an AOR for this then you can apply for a bridging open work permit.
