Our stuff was sent around Christmas eve from Canada to London. Any idea how long they take before you get a medical request?

I think they just want to make sure you're not on some kind of welfare program. I sent in a copy of my 2008 tax return so they know how much I earned. I also included a letter from my boss stating what my income is at my current job.

I guess that was enough because I was approved to sponsor, even though I haven't moved back to Canada yet.

We are moving from us to ca and wil apply for my spouse sponsorship once in canada. Anyone send all the documentation at once like police fib medical. Should I go ahead and get the police records on Mexico thru the embasy or should I wait till CIC send me a request.

Just thought it might be useful to know: even though Mississauga had approved the sponsorship, it doesn't mean that the visa office will not look at whether or not you qualify as a sponsor. In the case of sponsors that live abroad, it's actually the visa office that decides whether or not the sponsor intends to move to Canada once the visa is issued. I have seen cases where the visa office has asked for more proof of just that and even a case or two where the applicant was denied their visa because the IO didn't believe the sponsor intends to move back to Canada.
Just a heads up in case this comes up again before you're done with the application.

MGG, yes, you should include the medical exam form, the police certificates and FBI certificate (if required) when first sending in the application. This way you avoid delays in the later processing (if the visa office has to request them, they then have to wait for you to send them and that just causes delays). Be sure to read the guides, this is all explained in them. With most other immigration applications (such as the skilled worker for example), you have to wait for the visa office to request such things, but because the family class has much shorter processing times, they ask for them upfront.

Wow, that's good to know! We included a letter from my aunt stating that we were going to stay with her until we found an apartment and jobs. In the application instructions, it mentioned including a job offer or lease agreement, but who on earth would sign a lease without seeing the place first? And especially if you don't know how long the whole process is going to take? It didn't seem very logical...
Anyway, I hope that's enough! I guess we'll see.

When they start to process your sponsorship application you can log on to eCAS to look at your case. This will take a few weeks, though, so don't worry about it.

I sent in my application on December 1st - stupidly I didn't send it guaranteed delivery, just regular post but with tracking, so I know it wasn't received until December 11th. I've heard nothing since then - no letter saying it's been received or anything - but I assumed that it would have been delayed because of Christmas...should I worry? I'm totally paranoid that I've forgotten something, as I'm sure everyone is, but double/triple/quadruple & beyond checked it over so fingers crossed it's all there...

they never let you know that they received your paperwork in Mississauga. the only way you can know when you'll be able to log in on ecas when they start processing your sponsorship.

today we had the letter in the mail saying that the sponsorship has been approved.
I guess that was the easy part. Now the big waiting begins.
