Hello house, I am April 2018 applicant,
I got pre arrival and DM yesterday May 15.

Though I didn't receive any direct email as regarding these updates and I didn't link my account to Gckey. I have been using the regular CIC online checks and email they sent in the past to monitor the process.

My question is, how long does it take to get PPR and must I link my account to

It's helpful to link your account so you can get your messages on time. Also, Per recent happenings, its safe to say you should expect PPR between today and tomorrow.

You mean AVO (Accra Visa Office). LVO (London Visa Office) has a very different timeline. This thread is for AVO. If you mean AVO, It'll be approx. 5 months from Oct 29 (not AOR date).
Am I to understand that the timeline is slower for African applicants?

I logged into the system. Here is a cut-and-paste.

Details about your application status
Application step

  • Review of eligibility Your application is in progress. We will send you a message when we start reviewing your eligibility
  • Review of medical results You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
  • Review of additional documents We do not need additional documents.
  • Interview You do not need an interview. We will send you a message if this changes.
  • Biometrics We do not need your fingerprints. We will send you a message if this changes.
  • Background check We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.
  • Final decision Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.
Observations:
  • Don't all applicants from Africa have to go through an interview? Do you think this is a placeholder text that is not adapted to the VO?
  • Is normal that they would proceed with the background check *before* the SA ?
