Hi! My husband is a pnp nominee. We have already applied for PR and the visa officer interviewed us. After the interview, we were told that they will continue processing our applications. That we are done with the security check, our medicals are passed. What is left is the background check. Would anybody know what still needs to be done? From what I read in this thread, background check is the same as security check? Just wanted to be clarified and know approximately how long it will still take? Thanks much!

Hi Sam,

I also included my UCI number and Application number. These details show on the letter they have sent me. I thought maybe I didn't include enough information. Did you ask under the Privacy Act or Access to information? Maybe this is where I went wrong?
I applied through privacy act as it is free. But the result should be same for both.

I recieved a message in my CiC acc this morning requeting additional family information doc to be uploaded back to them. Curious as we have already given that info , why do they request this? Not complaining its no issue, just curious :)

This usually happens when you something is not clear or a confirmation is required.

In the application you need to provide the info of your immediate family, i.e. spouse, and dependent children, and also of your parents (parents of PA) and siblings.

Thanks for your work legalfalcon. I have a question. In some cases, CSIS or IRCC contact foreign governments to request further information regarding some applicants. But I assume that some foreign governments (ie Middle Eastern) take a very long time to reply to these requests or even never respond. Do you have any information about this? Thanks

This is true, and IRCC does seek info from foreign governments and they have to wait until the info is obtained.

@strength2, thank you for all your help so far!

Could I ask you something about CSIS, I asked for ATIP from CSIS online and received a reply from them this morning. Their letter states:

"A record search for the requested information was completed on the basis of the information provided by you and we were unable to locate any record relevant to your request"

I am now totally confused. Do they mean they never received a request to do checks on my file or did I not give them enough information to proceed? On the online ATIP request, I have attached a copy of my passport, current work permit as well as a utility bill off the previous month.

I would really appreciate your valuable input in this! Thanks!!

Most likely, IRCC has not yet sent your file to CSIS

If your security checks are done, then the only thing left is the final review and you will have a PPR. How much time, that depends on the VO.

Did you make it clear you want CSIS status for yourself? I saw another case they told him no CSIS his wife was the main applicant he sent a clear enquiry again and got a normal CSIS status letter
Thank you for your reply and suggestion. Very helpful! Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I will resend an inquiry today.

Hey people , Is it legally possible for me to obtain a Canada work Visa while waiting in Security Screening? I am working in US but can get job offers from Canadian companies. I want to know if I can get a visa ? @legalfalcon

Hello Legalfalcon. First of all thanks for this excellent thread. Now I had a question about progress of security clearance based on GCMS notes. If the notes say 'records check complete' does that mean that the security check is done? Thanks in advance

What does self déportation mean?

Not sure in what context you are asking, but in general immigration parlance it means the that person in question voluntarily departures from the country.

Yes you can. They are separate procedures and the security screening may not have any impact on your work visa application

No, records check and security are two entirely different things.
