While researching of our friend leextream's case, I found this article:

a filipino family landed as immigrant a month ago in vancouver, the cover of the passport of the principal applicant separated from the passport booklet. apparently, the immigration officers are aware of the substandard philippine passports and they do make sure that your passport is not one of these... substandard passports issued. i remember when we applied as tourists 6 years ago, the immigration officer in manila bent the picture of my passport , lightly and lo and behold the plastic cracked and the picture protruded with the plastic cover still on it. he did it to all our passports, but out of 4 of us, only 2 cracked. he asked us to renew our passports where to stamp our visa. he said its better taken cared of here than outside of the philippines..... and he is exactly right.... to continue my story...the immigrating family was given a document to show that they are legal to stay in canada. but they are not considered landed as of this time, till they present their good passport. after a week of stay in winnipeg, with brother, they all went to toronto to renew passports. luckily they have a sister in toronto to help them out... problem is, philippine passports renewal takes months, as it is being processed and printed in the philippines .... still. that's what was explained to them. as of this time they are still in toronto...stressed out... money being spent without the opportunity yet to look for jobs as they cant work legally yet.... another point is they dont have medical insurance yet.... so ingat lang talaga... i shared this so you guys are aware of this possible problem with our passports, so its better that you check this yourself ...para ma ayos sa philippines pa lang... mas mahirap pag dito lumabas ang problema...super mahirap yon at hindi lahat masuwerte na kapatid ang pupuntahan at may kapatid pa sa toronto.. and still maski kapatid. .. malaking abala sa privacy and financially ang makitira talaga..good luck to all.

This is so nice of you Cabalen to share what you found out. Marami siguro tayong nagulumihanan sa case ni Leextream... Anyway, this helps a lot sa ating mga kabayan. Blessing na din that the VO found out this dito pa lang sa Pinas, mas mahirap kung sa Vancouver na eto nakita before issuing the work permit. God is really so good all the time!

Pero sobrang abala naman bakit hindi pa magawa ng tama ng mga kinauukulan natin... ang laki ng bayad sa pagkuha ng passport tapos ganoon lang ang mangyayari? alam naman nila na pag passport syempre mangibang-bansa tayo at bulatlatin 'yan doon tapos di man lang makapasa sa international standard... haaist ang gobyerno nga natin kaya wala asenso

Thanks sa advice yan na muna gagawin ko para maka siguro… worried lang ako kasi appointment system pa naman ngayon. Additional one month na naman daily sa visa… tsaka baka di nila e renew passport ko lalo na almost 2 years pa saka mag expire.. anyway I will ask them na lang kung anong pweding gawin ko sa passport ko. Gagamitin ko na lang yung letter from Canada para mapabilis @ yce.. sana nga visa stamped na kasunod nito.

Bro thanks dun sa na research mo. Ikaw talaga naasahan ko pag ganon. Bilis mo makakita. Yung passport ko pala is brown na pro nong nakuha ko ito parang di pa to biometric passport. Wala pa itong maliit na rectangle na may bilog sa gitna. Kaya siguro binalik. Sa inyo ba biometric passport na yung sa inyo?

Sa info lang ha sa passport ko: May naka stamped dun ng KSA visa. One year lang ako dun. Din nag exit ako at dumating last july this year. Authentic talaga yun. Kaso lang ng pinasa ko passport ko di ko na nilinis. Yung agency ko kasi sa KSA may dinikit na malaki na sticker ng agency at company ko sa cover ng passport ko. Covered nga halos ¾ ng passport eh. Eremove ko sana kaso mas marumi tignan dahil dun sa sticker nya kaya pinabayaan ko na lang.

Bro, yung wife and daughter ko nakapag renew ng passport kahit almost 2 years pa validity. Wala naman hiningi sa kanila. Tinanong lang sya bakit paparenew. Sabi lang nya pupunta sya ng Canada. Dko alam kung may biometrics sa akin. Last April 2012 lang ako nagparenew.

 If the laminate on the biopage is disturbed around the photo, a new passport is required. In order to save valuable time, please obtain a new passport prior to submitting your application.
 Children must have their own passport.

Hindi ko alam kung magfafall sa bullet number 4 yung situation mo. Pero sabi mo sa cover lang ng passport at parang hindi sa loob. Anyway, tama advice nina jeanmichille at yce. DFA lang ang authorized na pwedeng magsabing legit passport mo and kung kelangan ka nga parenew. Don't worry sa DFA napakabilis na. Yung online appointment kung may vacant in 2 days pwede ka na agad pumunta. Passport mo darating in more than 2 weeks. Take note mo lang yung deadline na binigay sa yo ng CEM at magpadala ka g update before the deadline kung kelangan kang magpaextend ng deadline.

nag pa appoint na ako kaso sa Jan 4 pa. cguro gagamiton ko yung Emergency Cases nila ayos na kahit walang appointment. Pakita ko na lang yung letter from CEM.
Parang dun cguro ako nag fall sa bullet 2 mo. Nov 2014 kasi mag expire yung passport ko kung 2yrs ang visa di di na valid. Di ko na kasi yan na renew kasi yung sa LMO ko one year lang ang duration ng employment ko. Kung alam ko lang nag parenew na ako... Di bale.. sana mabait ang DFA sa akin...

Huwag ka na magpa appointment kasi matagal talaga, limited lang kasi na applicant per agent. When we renewed our passport (kami ng anak ko), at first nagpa-appointment talaga kami kaso more than a month pa kami naka line-up so ang ginawa namin, nagtiis talaga pumila, araw-araw meron 'yan kaya lang pagtiyagaan mo talagang pumila, yung iba magdamagan talaga... more than 2 years pa din 'yung validity ng passports namin kaya lang ni-renew na namin may waiver lang na pinapirmahan sa amin doon sa DFA, may bayad din 'yun mga 300 yata bukod sa passport. Madali nalang ngayon ang renewal kaya dont waste time Goodluck at Visa na talaga kasunod nyan ;D ;D ;D

Of course kailangan natin maging optimistic all the time!!! To be honest inip nko talaga minsan.. Pero I don't mind yang inip-inip na yan! Mas strong ako sa inip na yan.. I'm convincing my self na hindi pwede mainip. Haha!!

Promise leextream visa na yan.. Yehheeey!! Anyway, I read somewhere dito sa internet before na check lang daw ng check kahit madaling araw sa DFA Appointment minsan mkaka-tsamba daw tlaga sa mga nag ccancel ng appointments nila.

Malapit na visa natin.. Nararamdaman ko na! Heheheh...
