Work permit is not a traveling document. It's just a document that allows you to remain in Canada. If you need to travel out of Canada then you need to apply for TRV with your permit. Read comment from csadangi....

Right, ok, thanks for clarifying. Must be a different permit, as i've been using my current one for 2 years to re enter canada with no issue. Will wait until this new extension one comes though and verify.Thanks
Your old permit must accompanied a Visa. Check your passport to see you have a Visa together with the old permit. Permits are same and nothing different. I have never heard someone travel with permit alone without Visa but this is strange when you use your permit alone to travel and come back. This is strange anyways but be sure of it first.
This is my 3rd work permit under 2 passports for Canada, each one was stapled to my passport with not another application to apply for
Ill be sure to check though, perhaps it is because the country i'm from . Who knows.
Just an update, 17th July AOR, Eligibility review in progress 
They just reached mid-July. You need to wait at least another 25-30 days. But good thing is they are going through the July files really fast.
LMIA EXEMPT, NOC 2174, Applied on July 12. Recieved extension on Nov 1st.
Got approved. Got my Work Permit for 3 years
Didn't receive any message, so be sure to check your my CIC account everyday once in the morning (reviewing eligibility) & once in the late afternoon (for status). Took crazy 110 days.

Yes I got an approval letter from cic next day after I saw approval in the cic account....
