Hi!

We are planning to bring somebody we know over from Vietnam over to Canada to study.

We are aware of the process and everything, however we are unsure on how to provide proof of financial support since we will be providing everything for the individual.

Also, when should health care insurance be purchased? Is it required when the application is done?

Thank you!

and normally insurance is included in the fees if u look at college/university fee breakdown.

We are wanting them to take ESL first then to put them into a program... Insurance is somewhat included for programs - I've researched this.

Also, the link you gave - I've seen that, it talks about the individual having the money not us..

a letter from the person or institution providing you with money; and

I guess the above point is there on the link and this is what you need to do :)

As far as I know, for an international student it is sufficient to have around 10,000 CAD for personal expenses (for a year) with paid tuition fees. At least that's what some people I know did. As for the insurance, you probably will have to purchase one once you've landed in Canada. Usually it is a private insurance plan for 90 days or so until you become eligible for a Provincial Health Plan such as MSP or OHIP. Not sure about the ESL students, but those enrolled in a Canadian college or a university have to be covered.
