You can file a ATIP request to get copy of the immigration notes usally takes 30 days but will have immigration notes of the cic officers and time line of what action been taken
https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do

If you are past the processing time you can filed a web form request for update
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/web-form.asp

Hope this helps

Im stuck at this stage for about 3 months and almost 2 weeks. They dont have a time line apparently. I guess we keep on waiting for some news.

Being 'stuck' at this stage isn't uncommon. This is because CIC requires input from external agencies to help make determinations on security and eligibility.

For outland applications, this could be: CSIS, interpol, or other security and intelligence foreign agencies.

For inland applications, they typically rely on CSIS and the RCMP to perform assessments.

It could mean that one of those externals has slowed your progress. Your GCMS note will likely reveal the cause (if it's not sensitive).

Thanks for shedding some light. I guess the wait continues my husband has lived in 3 countries so probably means extra security checks.

ya its just very depressing, its been 7 months and yes my mp always gives me updates saying that our app is pending background checks and once those are complete then we will get ppr. My mp makes it sound so positive but its been 7 months... i wonder how much longer we have to wait, i feel like its never going to end.

totally understand that you want to move on with life and forget CIC. Same here for my family.

I wonder if involving your MP might have slowed you down.... how often do you speak with them?

Have you even heard of the idiom: the squeeky wheel gets the grease? If you make enough noise that they are now calling you routinely, I would be concerned. They normally only involve themselves when they are asked. Given that they are now calling you, I am guessing they are avoiding you calling them first...

I would be ordering GCMS notes I think...

The MP being involved does not slow anything down. OP asked for help and the MP's office is being nice enough to routinely check on the app and keep them updated.

If you say so. I have dealt with MP's, and yes they do act on your behalf as appropriate (and with appropriate consent). They will communicate with the Ministry of Immigration, sure. They do not act as your representation to the CIC. Opinion aside, no one is actually able to comment on this.

I think my original position, which was to order and review the GCMS notes is probably the best means the OP has to figure out what is going on.

profiler i did initially contact them and i was the one who told them to ask
about my app, it wasn't them who contacted me first. The reason why its monthly updates is because they said that our app is in its final stages, only pending background checks so any decision can be made soon, thats why they want to keep me posted. I dont really get why that should affect our application, shouldnt it be the opposite? Shows we are concerned and caring about our application.

Background and Security checks begin automatically and immediately upon the case being entered into GCMS. At least that's what the operational bulletin's state happens (and I know in our case, that's the first step, we were notified of it from myCIC). So it's pretty confusing that you are being told this in the final stages.

I know you reached out to them, and not them reaching out to you. The fact that they seem to have free time to routinely check with CIC for you makes me wonder if the rest of her/his constituency should know about their extra 'free' time and that (s)he prefers to work in immigration related matters with that 'free' time. Ordering your GCMS notes would show you are concerned about your application. Involving an MP is usually the last escalation. Like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly.

Anyway, good luck!
