I read received initial assesment? Does it mean you got AIP/ Approval in Principle or was your case transferred to your local office? If so, what your local office is? If you are waiting for an interview to have your relationship assed it can take up to 9-18 months from the time of transfer to get an interview date at certain local offices which have huge backlogs- like Calgary, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Edmonton.
Order your FOSS notes, find out where your file is and what happened with it from the very beginning.
I would say, if your file was transferred it is a normal timeline, if you received AIP, then something must be wrong as I really don`t know anyone who waited that long for 2nd stage inland. Actually, Eyeoftheocean, but she had security interviews. (hope Eye, you don`t mind that I mentioned you.)The the total processing time is max. 18 months without a file transfer.
Contact your MP and get him/her involved!
Hi ditta, i received a letter saying as below.(i don't know if this is AIP or meaning of transferring my file to my local office)

" It has been determined that you meet the eligiblity requirements to apply for permanent resident.
However, a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements have been met.
You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members both in canada and abroad have met these requirements."

I sent all the requirements already and i haven't been asked for extra yet.
And i don't understand why they have to check my family in abroad.
I don't know if this is normal and i don't even know where my file is now.

If you need a visa to get back into Canada, do not leave. They will not give you a visa to get back in, and then your inland application will be rejected. You'll have to start over, and all your waiting will have been in vain. Better to lose the money on the plane tickets than to have to go through another application process.
Anyway, you might get your PR by September.
Hi canadianwoman,
i might get my PR by september?
Can i ask you why it's september?

Any idea about this?

We received your application for permanent residence on December 18, 2009.
We started processing your application on March 2, 2010.
Medical results have been received.
A decision has been made and you will be contacted.

Ok, so this means you received AIP and you are eligible to apply for an Open work permit if you haven`t done it already. Your file hasn`t been transferred, they are doing background checks. Background checks can take up a long time, depending on whether you lived in many countries, where are you from, whther you were involved in politics, war, ect. Did you order your FOSS notes? You really should so you could see whre your application stands.

I am from South Korea and never stayed over 6 months other than Korea and Canada.
So i believe there is not much thing for them to check my Background.
I know i should request a FOSS but it seems to be complicate for me even if i read the guideline.
Thank you ditta.

Order them and some seniors here can help you to read the codes and understand the content. It might be slower to get information from South Korean authorities, or who knows.
If you hit the 18 months total you should really get your MP involved, they are sometimes have the power to push things a bit or give you more accurate details about what is taking so long.

Sorry but what is MP?
And there is one thing that i am a bit worried of...
for my police check in Canada, i sent a paper with my fingerprints from RCMP
but some people say that i should have sent a digital one
i am afraid if this cause the delay,
how did you provide the police check in Canada?

I called Immigration office but was only told that there is nothing wrong so just keep waiting more.
I was expecting i should get final assessment by now, so already got a flight tickets to see my family back home.
I didn't see them for 5 years and i really miss them, i must go in this Sep., because i cannot return the tickets.
But i am still not getting my finial result. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I wasn't even asked for extra documents, then why it's taking so long... :'(

If you don't mind me asking what country are you from ?

May I ask why did you apply for inland?...Inland takes a long process. For outland it just takes 3-4 months the least with no problem with the apps you can have your visa. If takes 6-9 mos if there's a problem with the apps.

MP is Member of Parliament.:)
You do not need to submit RCMP clearance with your application, CIC will contact RCMP amd will run their own checks. If they requested fingerprints, the paper fingerprints should be fine. I don`t think it matter whether it`s digital or not.
I did not send RCMP clearance with mine, for example.

As for the previous poster, there are several reasons why someone apply inland or outland. Both has its own advantages and disadvantages, people choose between them according to their own measures and circumstances. I applied inland and I would do it again as I had more benefits to do so than the outland way.

Stupidly, i didn't know that i could apply outland as common-law class in canada.
Some people even told me it's illegal.
I am from South Korea and i've heard that i will need marrige certificate if i apply outland.
That's why i alppied inland but i think it's a big mistake. :'(

Please share your processing time for final approval.
