Good luck trying to call Immigration Canada. I've been trying to call for about two weeks straight now with a few questions....always about 5 minutes of speal, then they are too busy so just disconnect call. Always check my emails and junk/spam folder...nothing. Once, when I called they said they had sent a request for my medical and a few forms....I'm glad I called as I never got them and double checked they had my email right. They sent me the forms request while I was on phone. After call sent in the forms they requested....been two months and still nothing new. Can't get through on the phone now...constantly worried they did the same thing...as nothing updates online. What a joke. Can't get ahold of anyone. Would like a life someday. Been 4 years process so far. Husband Canadian, I'm a US citizen. So sad.

It certainly is rough trying to get through to them, especially when you're worried about your application.
Try calling early in the morning (right when they open, 8am I think), and if it doesn't put you through, try hanging up and calling right back. I've done that a few times and eventually got through.
I've called CIC many times and I've never had to wait longer than until the next day to get through to someone - it just takes persistence! Once it's possible, press options 2-1-1-0. That should get you through. Knowing the options also speeds things up since you don't have to to listen to much.
Obviously I 100% agree that it shouldn't be this hard, but unfortunately we have to play by their rules. This should help though!
