Ok Guys I have got my passport back with Visa stamped on 15-06-2014 passport back from courier 17-06-2014.
Will be landing on 16-july-2014

Yes 6 months single entry visit visa. I am applying again next week. Make sure your wife provides a letter from her company if she is working as that is pretty strong evidence she will return.

I think thats where the problem is - my wife is not working at the moment so providing that letter will be difficult. Any other thoughts ?

My question is, while your Sponsorship application is going through, going to Canada on a visit visa doesn't effect that process?

I was lead to believe that it's a bad idea and that it makes the Sponsorship process longer? I'm now secretly hoping that it's entirely false and can actually visit my wife as our application goes through without added wait.

It does not affect your process. anxiouswife is correct. The only thing they want to see for the visit visa is you provide enough evidence that you will be going back to the country and not staying in Canada permanently. Some of the strong evidence is a letter of employment or full time enrollment as a student.

Keep in mind - at the end it comes down if the Immigration Officer is satisfied with your evidence. All the best .

Sponsor approval: January 8 2014 (sent to Abu Dhabi)
Acknowledment letter and additional docs requested: March 16 2014

Heard nothing from them again
Ecas still says "application received " no idea why!

My question is : the current processing times is 15 months on CIC website. Do we count 15 months from the month we sent our application or from the day we received the acknowledgment letter? Please help me out. Much appreciated !

Keep in mind - at the end it comes down if the Immigration Officer is satisfied with your evidence. All the best .

There are two parts to processing times

1) Processing for Sponsor - which is about 55 days now
2) Processing for Applicant ( thats your husband ) - which depends on the country of residence, in this case Abu Dhabi is 15 months.

So 15 months is the processing time in Abu Dhabi once the file is transferred over there . Hope that helps.

It should be 15 months from when they receive your application which is when they send you an acknowledgment of receipt of your application by email. It is normal for e-cas to remain as 'application received' until they are ready to process your visa. Mine was application received from Jan 2014 till April 2014. On April 21, it changed to 'Application is in process'. But hasnt changed since then

I am assuming my application was transferred to Abu Dhabi in November because the sponsorship approval came through on 29th October, but still I only received acknowledgment from the Abu Dhabi on 28th Jan 2014. So that is normal too, to receive your acknowledgement a few couple of months later

Normally the next step is request for additional documents if they need any. If not, then you need to wait patiently for them to process your visa and request your passport. You may find that your status changes to 'In Process' in between now and request for passport but for some people the status update does not happen. Straight away they get passport request.

Mine changed to 'In Process' On April 21st 2014 and I am waiting to hear from them.
