Spouse has valid study permit, but can we apply for work permit at same time

Hello Everyone.

Thanks in advance for looking into my post.

I am a permanent resident in Canada. My spouse is on a valid study permit. I want to apply for her permanent residency, but we are planning for open work permit as well. Is it possible to have both a study permit and a work permit at the same time?

Unfortunately, you cannot hold two different visas at same time. You have to decide which visa you want your spouse to have, Since she currently have a study visa, she can continue her studies but once the OWP has been approved, she has to quit her studies as the OWP doesn't permit her to continue her educational studies.

You are better off applying for OWP after she complete her studies.
