Hello everyone,

I received an email that our file was submitted for background and security check. I have a question, will it take longer if my husband did not include a criminal check from one of the countries he lived in for more than six months? the reason we didnt include it was because at the time we sent the application, it wasnt six months and we didnt think he would stay for so long. Also. the country im talking about is syria, so if they ever asked for it how is he ever to go back to that country? he will risk his life.

he went to syria in oct 2011 and returned to iraq in july 2012. we sent the application in april 2012. ( he only included a criminal check from iraq)

Anyone??

Hi,

I got married on July 15, 2013 and I plan to submit the spousal sponsorship documents for my wife very soon.

I have a question regarding the name change on my wife's passport. She is planning to change her last name and this would require her to get a new passport. Shall we make this name change and get her a new Indian passport before submitting the PR application or after that?

The other option is to submit the application with her old passport containing her maiden name. Then change the name on her passport later, while her immigration application is in process. When she is required to submit her passport to CIC, she would submit the new passport containing her new changed name.

Can someone suggest which of these 2 options is more advisable.

Thanks in advance,

Best,
Nilay

You will find it much easier if you make the changes before you submit the application. It's complex enough to start with and you REALLY don't want to do anything that will delay processing halfway through.

Is it mandatory in your culture for the last name to be changed? It's not required in Canada.
In fact, in Quebec, you cannot change your name without a great deal of effort after marriage.

My wife didn't change her name after marriage as ALL her immigration/identity documents are in her maiden name. More effort than it's worth for us. I don't "own" her, so I'm very happy for her to keep using whatever name she chooses.

For information, it's not a good idea to raise the same question multiple times in different threads.

With the current Pakistan timeline of 29 months, I would say I definitely wouldn't expect anything before the new year, especially with the strike. I don't recall if the Islamabad offices is one that has been shut down due to the strike, but if it was shut down, it could be even longer than that.

Good luck with the wait! Once your spouse has their PR and is with you, the wait will all be worth it.

my husband is in canada n he sponsored me there. At that time processing time for canada was 26 months. On 20th of this month the processing time will be completed.bt still no one contacted us in this regard.Wt should we do? :'(

Check the new processing time, and see if it's been extended. From the 26 months you've posted, I'm assuming that your visa office is Islamabad, which now has a processing time of 29 months.

In the mean time, order your CAIPS notes, which will tell you what has been looked at on your file, and notes written or concerns, etc. It takes about 30 days to receive your CAIPS notes.

Have you ordered electronic case notes? They would tell you where things are in the process. If I were in your position, I'd be ordering them every 4-6 weeks. It's the only reliable mechanism CIC gives us to track case status - and it allows you to verify they received the documents she sent along.

Islamabad is a very slow office and it is being impacted by the labour action, so it may be 2-3 months before anyone even looks at the file again.

Thanks Zardoz for the information. I get a feeling that changing name would be an unnecessary task, not worth the hassle.
Also, I will ensure I do not post the same question on different threads.

I think that would count as social assistance but your undertaking is only for 3 years isn't it? I would put your name on the list and hope that it takes as long as you need for the undertaking to run its course.

Yes, and my husband can apply for citizenship March 16th 2015 according to the calculator on the website. I just wasn't sure if actually applying would hurt or not. Hm. May have to do some stronger research.

Hey guys, wondering if someone can give me some info? I lived in Canada for two years so when applying for my spouce/partner visa to move to Canada I figured I would 100% need a police check done for Canada as well as Australia which is where I live.
So I got my fingerprint done, sent them to RCP 2 months ago and am yet to hear anything back.
Now the other day I was reading through the website and it says that you MiGHT need a police background check and that once you send your paperwork to the CIC they will contact RCP and run your name through their program.
So my question is, do I just send mine and my partners paperwork and wait to hear from CIC or do I need to wait for RCP to send me my fingerprint clearance so I can include that in my documents to send to CIC?
I've tried contacting CIC but they don't give me a clear answer and I hate sitting here and waiting.
Any info anyone can give me would be soooooo greatfully appreciated!!

Good day all

I email accra visa office and got a reply that my application is currently in a queue for a review. Please does anyone know how long this stage takes? Please I need ur replies. Thanks
