Spousal sponsorship

Hi everyone,

I am a permanent resident of Canada since June 2011 but have been living outside Canada to finish my studies. This coming month, I will be going back to Canada and staying there for good. However, I have a long time partner that I would very much like to sponsor. We have been together since July 2010 and have been living together since January 2011. If I am planning to sponsor him as a common-law partner, will it be problematic that we were already living together for 5 months when I first landed in Canada and I failed to declare him as a partner? At the time, I had no idea whatsoever about the common-law partner category of Canada.

I am a bit worried because I have read several posts here wherein they were refused common-law partner visa because their sponsor fail to declare that they were already living together in his/her application.

Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Since you were only living together 5 months, you were not common-law at the time you landed. Anything less than official common-law status is just "dating" to the CIC. So there would have been no need to inform CIC of this at the time, and no need to include your partner in the application.

In some cases CIC for some reason tries to claim people were common-law when they really weren't. So what you could do in your PR application now, is to show proof or make a very clear statement, that you were NOT living together for the previous 7 months (June 2010 - Dec 2010). Or just be prepared that CIC could ask more about this during your processing.

Hi
Im new to the forum so just wanted to ask if any other US outland applicants who applied in August 2012 have gotten their PR yet? We just paid our right of permanent residence fee, so in the homestretch and getting excited! Should we get our hopes up that it could happen very soon?
You can check out the Ottawa Spreadsheet (in my signature and the signatures of many others). People from Sept/Oct are starting to land.

There are a bunch of September applicants who received PPR a month or so ago who should receive COPR within the next couple of weeks, but there seems to be some delay in the issuance of COPRs this month.

Hi everyone
I have applied open work permit for my wife in january and they rejected it as it is incomplete application. Again with help of a lawyer i applied visiting visa for her which also got rejected. Reason they mentioned is {your family ties in canada and in your country of residence}.

My status in canada work permit, full time permanent job (skilled level B), eligible for CEC in next 3 months

Please give me any ideas whether to apply again or appeal or wait until i get my PR.
Seniors members please help me. plz plz

Thanks for your help.

Inland application process requires "Original Police Certificates" in the checklist.

I've been living in canada since I was 18 years of age. Do I need to do this? What do you put down on the checklist? Do I have to attach a letter saying that I haven't stayed outside canada?

The payment for OWP will be on a seperate receipt? as I dont see any option to pay for them together with the Application fee and right of residence fee.

Please help.

Anything that you think will prove your relationship you should be able to use - facebook, skype and texting have all been used before, so I can't see why Whatsapp would not.

The link below will help you get it in some sort of presentable format:

Hope that helps!

If you are the sponsored applicant, yes, you will have to notify CIC of the change of circumstances on your application (a newborn child). However, if your sponsor is a Canadian citizen and your child is his, your child is a Canadian citizen by virtue of having a canadian parent, in which case you will have to submit a request to have your child's citizenship recognized (for which you may be asked for a DNA test). If your child is deemed Canadian, then your child does not need to be sponsored.
