My daughter in law is not from a visa exempt country and didn't require a return ticket when she arrived on her TRV.
We were prepared to purchase a ticket if they requested one

They indicated they had applied for PR under family sponsorship and were given a 6 month visa

Good luck :)
But she had a visitors visa. With visa exempt, there's no paperwork stating they have to leave at this date.

This is for MT Wifey,

Hi, my name is Natasha Lewis and I am in Trinidad with my husband and two kids. We are in the process of our application and I was approved to sponsor my Husband. Now its the waiting game I was told. Could you let me know if you apply outside for your Husband or were you in Canada at the time.

My email is Natashalewis1978@gmail.com

Thanks

Many times immigration officers do no ask for anything, but when they do, I am not sure you could revert the implied intention they will get that the holder of the TRV is not wanting to stay even if ready to buy a return ticket right then and there (I wonder how you would plan to buy a ticket if you are in the immigration line - here's my iPhone, yes, expedia app, yup, click, pinch, there, credit card please, yup, click, here, my proof, get it, good enough for ya, mr immigration agent? got ya!). There are all kinds of immigration officers and they seem to often exercise positive discretion, but you never know the mood they will be in the day you come in.

Then again, people are denied TRV's when a PR application has been lodged while visitors in Canada are approved extensions to stay under the same conditions. It is just total BS to me.

True. Immigration agents are very relaxed when dealing with visa exempt citizens, especially US citizens as they do not tend to overstay; however, that does not mean any visitor (exempt or not, with or without paperwork) has a free pass to stay as long as they please (usually 6 months max; otherwise visa-exempt visitors would not need to extend their stay, right?).

Hi everyone, i'm 20 years old from Nepal. I applied for PR through family sponsorship since my mother is in Canada. I have sent all my documents to the Canadian High Commission in Delhi. Recently, the Canadian consulate got closed in Nepal. Therefore, i have no where else to contact them from Nepal. I have sent emails to DELHI-IMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca but I get electronic mail which does not help much.

Also, i sent my documents on November along with my passport and no response yet. Aren't they suppose to contact us once they get our passport (i'm just curious)? I already missed 2 years of my college since I thought the process won't take long. I wanted to continue with my studies in Canada. I am very very worried.

Please, if anyone has any suggestion or answers to my problem please guide me?

Hi All,

I mailed off our common-law Outland sponsorship application Saturday and I've been tracking it online. It has reached Canada but is being held at customs. Does anyone know how long customs will usually hold a package?

Thanks so much! Getting overly paranoid here!!

Not long. Depending how busy they are it could be a few minutes to a few hours. Yours is just printed matter with no monetary value so they will not hold it.

Can i ask a bit more info:
- What is your mom's status in Canada, citizen or PR? If she is PR, how and when did she get it?
- Why did you send your documents directly to Delhi? For family sponsorship, i believe all documents first need to go to Mississauga office, where they first need to determine eligibility of the sponsor (your mom).
- Did you send a copy of your passport, or the actual passport? Again I believe you are supposed to wait until they request a passport, before you send to them.

It's a little more complicated if she requires a Visa to enter Canada. I'm under the impression if you exit Canada while a visa extension is in process, you forfeit the application. Perhaps someone else can correct me.... but if I'm correct, she will need to either wait for her new visa or apply for a new visa.
This seems tricky - perhaps i wasn't clear on my details?
As a US Citizen, she is able to come into Canada freely for 6 months w/o the need to apply for a visa.
We applied for an extension (an extra 1 year) to cover the processing time for her PR application, and received a document that states that. It does state that the visitor visa does not guarantee re-entry into Canada, but I don't see any reason she should not get back in...

All in all, it sounds like we should be good to go on vacation, but I just wanted to be 100%

Thanks for the help thus far!

I'd be careful of that assumption . If she doesn't have any plans to leave Canada when you try to come back in, she can be rejected and sent back.

Did you take this course through a university? Then pick 1...if not then pick 2.
