I read on IRCC website that for visitor visa...an invitation letter is required?
My plan is to apply outland..wait for AOR then apply for visitor visa for my wife(so we can go together). Is that something doable?
Thanks
If you are a PR, you must apply from within Canada. And remain in Canada throughout the process (short trips ok).

She can apply for visitor visa before but may get refused / higher likelihood of refusal than with the AOR.

If you're a Cdn citizen - fine, can apply abroad.

I am a citizen...so an invitation letter is compulsory if I am abroad?

I have not done visitor visa recently, although I did it long ago and it wasn't an issue. The instructions will say what is required. If you apply for sponsorship from abroad and wait until AOR, you'll include info about the AOR for sponsorship and (I think) refer to family reunification policy.

Ok..hopefully someone else can give an answer abt the visitor visa...inivitation letter

I believe that email is the AOR email.

You may need to wait a few days before you can link your application on GCKey. When asked about the number of applicants, try entering "2" — for example, 1 Principal Applicant (PA) and 1 sponsor.

Hey guys quick questions for you.

My spouse received her COPR today, I am her sponsor.

How long does it normally take until they request the passport to be sent to the main office, or embassy? Will they send out an email or something for instructions on this?
We haven't received any email along with the COPR, it just finally updated in the tracking portal.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What do you mean by "received COPR"? Do you mean that IRCC assigned a number? If so, that is an administrative step and doesn't indicate final approval. PPR could be anywhere from a few days to a few months from now.

Hi Everyone,

We submitted our OUTLAND Application from INDIA on Feb 19. On the tracker, medical and biometrics are completed.

Few days back, the eligibility was not started yet and Background check was in progress since the beginning, but just got an update that eligibility (PA) has been updated to in progress. Now, both eligibility and BGC both are in progress.

Does anybody knows how long does it take after they have started the eligibility (PA)? Sponsor's eligibility is already completed.

Yes, in the online portal it has updated today, all steps have been completed (ie medical, biometrics, eligibility, background check)
In the documents section we have received the COPR number, expiry date, etc.

It is my understanding that IRCC will send out an email in regards to the COPR, along with the next steps, I was curious to know how long that will take, its been almost 9 months since we first applied and my wife is growing impatient.

Thank you, once again.

differs with every application, and I have noticed applications from India are faster than other parts of the world. For example in my case, applying outland for my wife who is Asian, our eligibility and background check remained "in progress" from December 19th 2024 until April 03, 2025. At that time only the eligibility was updated to "complete" and background check was still "in progress". It finally updated today as background check "completed" with an issuance of COPR document number. For those two items to get completed took from December 19th, 2024 until May 28th, 2025.

So you may be in for a long wait, but like I said, it seems the Indian applications are faster. Hope this serves as solid information for you.

Your answer was posted by @scylla above: "Do you mean that IRCC assigned a number? If so, that is an administrative step and doesn't indicate final approval. PPR could be anywhere from a few days to a few months from now."
